About this listen

THE INSTANT SUNDAY TIMES TOP 5 BESTSELLER AND START OF A THRILLING NEW SERIES: AT MIDNIGHT, ONE OF THEM IS DEAD. BY MORNING, ALL OF THEM ARE SUSPECTS . . .

On New Year's Eve, Rhys Lloyd has a house full of guests.

His lakeside holiday homes are a success, and he's generously invited the village to drink champagne with their wealthy new neighbours. This will be the party to end all parties.

But not everyone is there to celebrate. By midnight, Rhys will be floating dead in the freezing waters of the lake.

On New Year's Day, DC Ffion Morgan has a village full of suspects.

The tiny community is her home, so the suspects are her neighbours, friends and family - and Ffion has her own secrets to protect.

With a lie uncovered at every turn, soon the question isn't who wanted Rhys dead . . . but who finally killed him.

In a village with this many secrets, a murder is just the beginning.

Keeps you guessing

I thought it was going to be a pretty straightforward plot, but the way Clare Mackintosh retraced her steps to expand on something that had been a fairly casual happening, from the other person’s point of view was brilliant…. Kept me guessing right up to the end …. And actually the heroine is not squeaky clean …. But human …. And sometimes her actions are somewhat questionable …. I’m certainly looking forward to the next book in the series … nice little bit of romance as an undercurrent too!!

Highly recommend this book!

I loved this title so much. Kept me gripped and I know it’ll take a while to fully move on to my next book! So pleased there’s more to come from Ffion & co. The narrator is excellent too.

Fantastic book

I loved this story. The first book I’ve read by this author but definitely won’t be the last! The characters are relatable and the twists in the plot are brilliant. Highly recommend this book!

A bit disappointed

I am a fan of this author, but I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I would have thought. Hopefully, the next book in the series is going to be better…

Interesting

I enjoyed the way the story developed using the various characters and their antics in certain days/times although ending a bit windy washy.

Great story & narration.

Lots of guessing, some I didn't see coming at all. Can't wait to read the next one.

Twisty plot

This book was interesting to read with lots of really different characters. It was dealing with some pretty serious stuff but enveloped within was a compassion and humour. I really enjoyed it.

Very enjoyable mystery with lots of strands all coming together

The best kind of mystery- a brilliant setting, a multitude of unpleasant characters vs good people, and a truly complex tapestry of storylines brought together in a beautifully easy read. And a possible love story too. Loved it!
