Summary

The irresistible debut novel from celebrity TV chef Rosemary Shrager where cosy crime and cookery collide!

When an old television rival, Deirdre Shaw, is found dead at the Cotswolds manor house where she was catering for a prestigious shooting weekend, Prudence is asked to step into the breach. Prudence is only too happy to take up the position, and soon she is working in the kitchens of Farleigh Manor.

But Farleigh Manor is the home to secrets, both old and new. The site of a famous unsolved murder from the 19th century, Farleigh Manor has never quite shaken off its sensationalist past. It's about to get a sensational present, too. Because the more she scratches beneath the surface of this manor and its guests, the more Prudence becomes certain that Deirdre Shaw's death was no accident. She's staring in the face of a very modern murder....

"Rosemary is one of the most positive and resilient people I know. I love her spirit as I love her cooking. Now, I have to admire her writing too." (Pierre Koffman)

Great Book

Loved this book easy to listen to. The relationship between Granma and Granddaughter made me smile especially where the technology goes into it can't wait for the next one.

Wonderfully read fun murder mystery

The narrator of this audio book should be given the highest acclaim - she was fantastic.
The story is a fun classic murder mystery, with rounded characters, full of food references which is charming and delightful.
I would highly recommend to listen to for an escape to an English country manor.

This is great fun and skips along

This is a light read for when you just want something to escape with. However it was not without a few twists and turns and it kept my interest. I would love more with perhaps an even greater focus on food such as we see in the Bruno chief of police series.

Entertaining

Narration saved this from being average. It was enjoyable and very 'murder she wrote ' like but although not predictable still felt like an old friend rather than a new and exciting acquaintance.

Fabulous

Loved this book, great original
story line with lots of quirks, characters & narration - Rosemary has injected a lot of humour into the story too. Really looking forward to the next book- hopefully there is one 🤞

Fantastic❤️

I loved this book. I also love Agatha Raisin, Royal Spyness, Midsomer Murders and all cosy mysteries full of caricatures of people and lots of tongue in cheek humour - fun mystery without the grit. In my opinion the negative reviews are only relevant if you don’t like this style of book/performance. If you do, buy this, it’s fantastic and the performance by the narrator brought all the characters to life - so difficult to do! Fabulous, can’t wait for book number two.
