Summary

Returning home from a police conference, DCI Boyd catches the last train back to Hastings from Brighton, unaware that he's about to play a central role in what will become a sensational news story.

But Boyd is reluctant to get caught up in the media hype or have his face plastered across the tabloids, particularly when what happened aboard the train may be the final act of a horrific and tragic story.

Wonderful! I managed to find this missing book from a brilliant series.

The story is excellent, as are the others in this series. As for the narration, I could listen to Aubrey Parsons reading a bus timetable and enjoy his voice and inflection. The author is quite correct that man's inhumanity to his fellow men seems to be just as prevalent today as it was in ancient times. Isn't one of the definitions of insanity "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome?

Best in the series .... so far!

Boyd book 4 starts with Boyd returning home from a conference on the last train to Hastings when it is hijacked by a man wearing a suicide vest.. Boyd helps have-a-go hero, Lucas, to tackle the terrorist and finds that things are not quite what they seem.

This book certainly captured my attention right from the start and carries on a a brisk pace. It is a terrific police procedural with great characters. I always enjoy the work relationship between Boyd and Okeke, and this time they have to deal with a not so nice new boss.

This book references the Bosnian War and the atrocities carried out, but Alex Scarrow deals with the subject with sensitivity. Ozzie the spaniel helps to provide some light relief, as does Boyd's fledgling relationship with Charlotte.

As always, Aubrey Parsons's narration is magnificent

Great listen!

As usual, a brilliant performance from Parsons! The story itself was a sobering reminder from the past, for those of us that remember that time history. A refreshing read of a terrible topic!

Unexpected storyline

This was not what I expected after the first three books. Not a typical police story.

Really Enjoyable listen.

I thought this was a really enjoyable listen. The story is fast paced and exciting with quite a lot going on and a reluctant Boyd bang in the middle of it all. Counter Terrorism decide what happened despite many things contradicting their thinking and it's up to Boyd to find the truth. Highly Recommended. Yes, there is at the time of writing this a problem with chapters from another Jack Probyn book having crept in there but I've reported this to the powers that be and it should be sorted out very shortly.
For me it did not take anything away from Alex's story hence the full 5 stars. Aubreys narration was as brilliant as ever.

Good as usual

Another good story , helping the reader understand how evil acts are covered by war ,
But not forgiven by the people who had to suffer them ,

Stunning

Humbling, shocking and gripping!
Boyd gets better and his team are now part of that tight knit bunch you can’t help but warm to.
So far this is the best one!

A very thought provoking gripping Boyd novel

Very sensitively opened our eyes to things that should not be forgotten in a gripping novel. Highly recommended

Loved it

Story had some very eye opening issues which we all need to be reminded of, so we learn. It goes to show we just to conclusions for the latest fear in the world when history holds the real truth. Great book to listen to highly recommend it
