About this listen

My son said he walked his girlfriend home. But now she is missing....

Our new home was meant to be a chance for us to start again; to make new friends and forget the past. And as I look around the barbeque we’ve thrown for our neighbors, I dare to dream that things will be all right. I watch my husband joking as he flips burgers and my daughter turning cartwheels on our sun-bleached lawn. And then my gaze falls on my son, Jacob, and his new girlfriend, Rose, in her light blue jeans and her green crop top. There is a worried expression clouding her beautiful eyes....

The next day I get a call from Rose’s mother that chills me to the bone. Rose never returned after our party.

I wake my still-sleeping son, who walked Rose home the night before, and beg him for answers. Jacob promises he saw Rose to her front door, and I know he would never lie.

But when the police find Rose’s house keys hidden in our garden and a witness claims to have seen them arguing in the street, everyone insists I can’t believe what Jacob is telling me.

I will do anything to protect my boy. But I need to find a way to make the questions stop. Because there’s something about our family that nobody can ever know. And as the search for Rose closes in, how can I keep him safe and keep our secrets hidden?

A gripping and jaw-dropping thriller with twists to die for. If you love Lisa Jewell, K.L. Slater, and Jackie Kabler, you’ll love The Lie.

didn't enjoy it as much as The Mother's Secret or While You Were Sleeping, found it a little slow at times, but still an enjoyable book with a twisty end. good narration

twisty finale

This book was one of the best I’ve listened to on Audible. The plot was intriguing and kept you guessing. The narrator did a fabulous job. Highly recommend!

Fanatic story.

I liked it, it's a solid example of the genre but the twist is almost glaringly obvious from really early on. I was waiting for a double bluff but it just played out exactly as expected.

Details were good though!

Not really a twist, more of a soft meander

I was disappointed to work out the main mystery of the story really early on, which I'm sure is the same for many others. If you manage to avoid that, then maybe this would make for a decent thriller. It is well narrated and an easy listen none-the-less.

Predictable but easy listening thriller

Didn’t get into it until a third way through. A bit confusing at times. A lot of characters who had their arms folded I find! Some things that happen early on aren’t explained further in story but All in all good story and glad I listened to the end.

Good listen

Good writing, but predictable ending with then a last sentence that brought things into question but didn’t resolve.

Ok. Bit disappointing

Endless repetitions of the word need, we need to talk, eyes narrowing over and over, it will be ok when it clearly wouldn’t be, trust me, I believe you, you need to this etc I was shouting at the book with exasperation. The narrator did her best and the voice was calm and soothing but honestly it was such poor use of language, all if which made it truly irritating. The twist was confusing and I did get cross with goodie goodie Lucie!

More of a young adult book limited vocabulary
