Summary
The Lion. Son of the Emperor, brother of demigods and Primarch of the Dark Angels. Awakened. Returned. And yet...lost.
LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
Witness the Emperor’s First Son make his dramatic return to the 41st Millennium! Much has changed since he last walked among the stars, but not Lion El’Jonson’s drive to protect humanity from the threats that assail it from all sides.
THE STORY
After ten thousand years of dreaming, locked in stasis at the heart of his shattered home world, Lion El'Jonson wakes to the nightmare of Imperium Nihilus.
In this midnight age, the dying embers of humanity are threatened on all sides by the hungry darkness. Alone, even the Lion has no hope of prevailing against such evil – but there are those who would aid him in his quest. Hunted to the edge of endurance, many among his Fallen knights have long-awaited the day their liege would return to redeem them. The Lord of Shadowed Paths must gather these lost loyalists to his side once more, and stride forth to vanquish a traitorous son and the twisted Chaos warband that calls him master.
Faced with these strange times, the Lion can be certain of nothing and no one, except for himself. But in a galaxy without the Emperor, without the Imperium, without his Legion, and without Caliban…who is he?

The best book since Dante
The best book since Dante, really well written after what seems to be a lull in quality and really well read

Great for fans, but not an entry point for new ppl
Good story, good narration. This books helps you get into the brain of the Primarch.
If you don't know much about the Horus Heresy then you might feel a bit confused, But for us who keep mostly up to date on the lore, there's loads of good stuff here.

A book fitting of the Lord of the first legion!
I've finished quite a few 40k books in my day and this is one of the best. The action is believable and kept surprisingly small scale for a warhammer book. The lion is old, but still superior to any mortal and any astartes, corrupt or otherwise. His internal struggles and visions are my favorite part, and he is written in a believable manner, a genecrafted warrior and strategist, but just slightly mellowed by age and the heavy duty of carrying on with his father's work. Perhaps he is even too human in this book at times, and I'm a bit sad the book dodges a confrontation between the Lion and the religious imperial echlesiarchy.
Regardless the book is fantastic, nice pacing, the occasional twist and surprise, and a deep dive into one of the emperor's sons. The narrator does phenomenal work and he lends life and complexity to several unique characters with his different voices.

A good 40k story.
This is one of the better 40k books for sure. The Lion's story is interesting and fits well with the new setting. I hope this is continued.

Really enjoyed this!!!
I'm not a Dark Angel fan, but each of the Black Library books featuring the Lion that I've either listened to or read, have been thoroughly enjoyable. This was no exception. I like how the story unfolded and left questions unanswered, left me waiting for the next book featuring The Lion.
Enough action, contemplation, intrigue and misdirection that I couldn't really predict what was about to happen. Most books now days are too formulaic, and become boring as a result.
This was a great little listen.

Great return
I have little interest in the Dark Angels until this story. A great introduction and fun to listen to. Narration and story were great.

Immense
Such an unexpected but great way to reintroduce a legend. This book will have you laughing and crying over its duration. It's easily one of the most poignant 40k books ever. Story and performance both excellent.
