About this listen
Dieter Hess, an aged spy, is dead, and John Bachelor, his MI5 handler, is in deep, deep trouble. Death has revealed that the deceased had been keeping a secret second bank account - and there's only ever one reason a spy has a secret second bank account. The question of whether he was a double agent must be resolved, and its answer may undo an entire career's worth of spy secrets.

Short, but great!
Loved it from start to finish, short, but still had my undivided attention! Thanks Mick!

Cannot wait to see where this story goes..
An intriguing intro to another clever and captivating story. Don't be fooled by the titles - there's nothing slow about these horses!

Brilliant Mick Herron as always
I love love love the Slough House books and this story has all the same backstabbing, self-serving characters we know and love plus a couple of newbies. Are they the hunters or the hunted? Read and find out!

Short but sweet
Yet another novella which may not be worth paying a full credit for, however I thoroughly enjoyed this as a sideline from the Slough House series.
As always, great narration from the reader. He always does the story justice.

Tasty little amuse bouche
I don’t usually bother with novellas but there was 40% off and I LOVE the Slough House series.
Perfectly formed episode that manages to include lots of the key characters, a twisty little plot and some classic Herron descriptions.
And of course being read by Sean Barratt means it was just under two hours of pure pleasure.

Terrific teaser
How affirming to listen to a very well written part of a tale than an interminable hodge podge of mangled plot lines which I have recently endured.
Funny, often lyrical and always requiring full attention, the author has done it again.
Needless to say, the reader can only wish that we could have had "the next part" too. It would be nice to see Ms Taverner trip over.
But by the time this new recruit became a plot line, the team at Slough House would be gone.
Mr Barrett retains the title of the A1 reader of novels.

Well worth a listen
I was a bit reluctant to buy this short story but after listening to Ian Fleming's short Bond stories I was aware that they are an integral part of any series, Jackson Lamb at his most formidable, the story did not disappoint

Spooks, spies and scheming
Another excellent piece of work from Mick Heron. His Slough House series is addictive, and as a short story this piece demonstrates why his books are so moorish. Great writing style, humour, intelligence and a twist.
