About this listen

Pre-order Evie Wood’s stunning new book The Story Collector now!

The Echo of Old Books meets The Lost Apothecary in this evocative and charming novel full of mystery and secrets.

‘The thing about books,’ she said ‘is that they help you to imagine a life bigger and better than you could ever dream of.’

On a quiet street in Dublin, a lost bookshop is waiting to be found…

For too long, Opaline, Martha and Henry have been the side characters in their own lives.

But when a vanishing bookshop casts its spell, these three unsuspecting strangers will discover that their own stories are every bit as extraordinary as the ones found in the pages of their beloved books. And by unlocking the secrets of the shelves, they find themselves transported to a world of wonder… where nothing is as it seems.

Hailed as one of the best releases of 2023, this contemporary romance weaves a tale of realism across multiple timelines, cementing its place as a top pick in women's general fiction. Its great acclaim has quickly spread, poised to be the latest and last book you'll need to complete your must-read list for the year. For fans of Sally Page (The Book of Beginnings), Fiona Valpy (The Cypress Maze), Eve Chase (The Glass House) and Barbara Davis (The Echo of Old Books) and Jill Mansell (The One You Really Want).

Great story and delivery

Very engaging story, Once started I couldn't stop listening. Found the division of the chapters into the various concurrent stories unusual but it worked well

Subtle fairytale for Grownups

The multiple narrators worked well particularly as the chapters related specifically to them. A mysterious start not knowing where we were going to be taken. The twists turns and surprises were an adventure in themselves. One review inferred this book was highlighting the abuse and subjugation of women, I totally disagree. I think it is empowering, but not soppy, realistic, and affirming look at how women have risen to the challenge of claiming their own space. The mystical, fairytale trait throughout the book was tantalising and the storyline compelling. I highly recommend this lovely book and the audible version in particular.

A little bit of magic

A story of three (tree) people and how their lives entwine with literature, time and magic.
Narration was brilliant and I was kept intruiged the whole way though.
(Epilogue was a bit naff though - just saying)
