About this listen
Five years after his band Ares shot to success, Ben Easton is struggling. He’s holed up in a mansion in Los Angeles while he fights depression and a dark drug addiction that threatens to destroy everything.
In a final attempt to save Ben’s life, his best friend Tone does something desperate — he calls Ben’s ex-boyfriend Stan and begs him to help. Stan Novikov is living in New York and thriving in his career as a fashion journalist. He hasn’t been back to London since he and Ben broke up, but that seems like the right place to go — along with Tone — to try and shock Ben out of his unhealthy lifestyle.
The band have to finish their album before Christmas but without Ben, work has stalled. Ben has to decide whether he’s going to stay with Ares and keep making music, or find another path for his future. One that might just include Stan.

Lost and wounded soul
I loved the first audiobook, so was looking forward to seeing where Ben and Stan ended up, but it wasn’t the happy ever after I’d hoped for. Ben’s newly found stardom and Stan’s career flourishing had taken them in different directions and they just weren’t able to make it work.
However, when Ben needs him, Stan doesn’t let him down and literally drops everything to be there for him whether he wants/likes it or not.
These two are like magnets, the might repel each other at times, but they will ultimately always be drawn to each other. Once again, it was great to hear Dan Calley reprise these characters and easily draw me into the story to the point where I was muttering and arguing with them, this is how real these men became. The more sensitive issues addressed in this story were handled well, but for me, the issues Ben was hiding from, and this is purely my personal view, I would’ve liked more of it as it was such an integral part of the storyline and the reason Ben spiralled out of control.
Dan’s narration was, as always, perfectly pitched and aligned to the pace and storyline, making it a thoroughly enjoyable listen.
