About this listen
We fought the invading New Men to a standstill and defeated the alien destroyer sent to obliterate Earth.
The worst should be over, but it's not.
Perfect android replicas are impersonating high-level officials so trust is failing. Worse, the New Men have found allies with an impenetrable stealth technology.
This time, however, Earth is going on the offensive. Admiral Fletcher is headed to C Quadrant with a Grand Fleet. He's to liberate the captured planets and find the enemy homeworld. What he isn't supposed to do is die.
The only one who can save humanity has been grounded. Captain Maddox is under suspicion because he's half New Man. But he's not going to stop. He's found something unbelievable. Now, he needs Starship Victory-an ancient, alien spacecraft-the AI Galyan, Meta, Sergeant Riker and the others to help him tear the greatest secret of all from the enemy.
Maddox and his crew must succeed or humanity will drown in a sea of human extinction.

I totally disagree. As usual the book has a good pace, with the usual mix of suspense, action and humour.
Can't wait for the next in the series - I am assuming there will be one.
Another great listen

In the aftermath of humanity's hard-fought triumphs over the New Men and the vanquishing of the menacing alien destroyer, a semblance of stability emerges. Yet, this illusion swiftly shatters, ushering in a climate of uncertainty. The inclusion of android replicas masquerading as authority figures introduces a layer of mistrust that adds complexity to the narrative. Meanwhile, the New Men's forging of fresh alliances amplifies the stakes to a level previously unseen. Earth's response involves a determined offensive led by Admiral Fletcher and his Grand Fleet, poised to liberate captive planets and unearth the enigmatic enemy homeworld.
A noteworthy point of contention that I couldn't overlook revolves around character development, particularly the trajectory of the principal female characters. Initially established as figures of strength, their eventual descent into what can only be described as dated stereotypes from a bygone era left me wanting more. The potential for robust and empowered character arcs seems squandered, and while I appreciate the intricacies of character evolution, this shift felt slightly disappointing.
The pacing and narrative direction raised mixed emotions within me. While the high-octane action sequences effectively held my attention, there were junctures where certain narrative elements treaded a path of familiarity. I concur with the analogy likening it to a mid-season episode of a television series like "Stargate Atlantis," an observation that speaks to the serialized nature of the storytelling, for better or worse.
Yet, even amidst these qualms, there's a silver lining that can't be ignored. The book's ability to maintain my vested interest and keep me engaged attests to its storytelling prowess. The clever infusion of humor and the deployment of unexpected twists contributed depth to the narrative tapestry. The resonance I felt with the characters further underscores the success of the series, evident in my reluctance to bid them farewell at the story's end.
Summing up, "The Lost Colony" provides a reading experience that's a blend of highs and lows, a cocktail of rapid-fire action, a narrative fabric woven with intrigue, and character dynamics that might polarize different readers. While a few aspects left me wanting, the overarching series remains a compelling and immersive jaunt into the realm of science fiction adventure. For those invested in the preceding volumes, this installment assures a continuation of the heart-pounding excitement, enigmatic twists, and interstellar clashes that characterize the Lost Starship series.

The two main female characters are painful. Initially portraied as strong individuals they're now reduced to nuisance stereotypes from the 1920s.
Would story would be straight forward boring action without their superfluous interjections..
..As it is I find myself frustrated that the plot has been reduced to something barely worthy of a mid-season episode of Stargate Atlantis.
I guess not all that surprisingly I'm too stubborn to give up on this - so I will worm my carcass further down the rabbit hole to see where this leads...
Remember ..if there's light at the end of the tunnel it could be a train... if there no light you might be in a cave..
Personally I'd rather this story flattens me that it leading nowhere..
Use the force long, and prosper!
could do with a trimming of the mainliners
