About this listen

In the chaos of that terrible night, her secret went down with the Titanic. But secrets have a way of floating to the surface…

Trapped in an unhappy aristocratic marriage, Elinor Coombes sees only lonely days ahead of her. So a present from her father - tickets for the maiden voyage of a huge, luxurious new ship called the Titanic – offers a welcome escape from the cold, controlling atmosphere of her husband’s ancestral home, and some precious time with her little son, Teddy.

When the ship goes down, Elinor realises the disaster has given her a chance to take Teddy and start a new life – but only if they can disappear completely, listed as among the dead. Penniless and using another woman’s name, she has to learn to survive in a world that couldn’t be more different from her own, and keep their secret safe.

An uplifting story about grabbing your chances with both hands, and being brave enough to find out who you really are.

I could understand someone behaving as Eleanor did under similar circumstances. Desperation and determination can accomplish much. Very good narration.

Out of despair

I loved this book and just wanted to keep on listening. Really interesting take on life onboard the Titanic and how the sinking of the ship gave opportunity for great change.i loved the portrayal of the main character, the depth , the grit and determination . So many layers as with the other characters. Narration was brilliant and as good as the Bonesetter.

Fantastic

I just love Frances Quinn's storytelling! She has a real gift to engage and this latest doesn't disappoint. It was one of those stories that you want to race to finish but don't want it to end.
Tremendously evocative writing and excellent narration. In fact, I found the writing so compelling that the recounting of Eleanor's experience of Teddy's birth and early years and her description of the sinking of the Titanic were almost too much to bear.
Can't wait for the next one!!

Another wonderful novel!

What a great novel this is! I fell in love with all of the characters, well most of them at least. I love Francis Quinn's novels, she expertly weaves information from a different century into truly plausible and believable stories.

Really enjoyed this book. Great narration with the just the right amount of tone and pace. I really felt that the narrator really was the character that she was portraying. Loved the descriptive content and storyline based around one life that survived the Titanic disaster.

Fabulous story

Very effective narration, characters were given good accents and Heather Long read with pace and intonation.
I found the first part of the story interesting but towards the end it became repetitive.
It’s a nice story but not exciting.
