About this listen
Last voyage, Captain Maddox entered a distant star system with a Swarm fleet. The sheer numbers were staggering, a 100-1 advantage against all human spacecraft. If the highly aggressive, racist insects gained hyper-spatial tube technology - allowing them to cross 1,000 light-years in seconds - it would mean Armageddon for Earth.
Star Watch desperately needs something powerful to offset the annihilating Swarm numbers. As if on cue, Professor Ludendorff declares he has discovered the whereabouts of ancient Builder technology, a tech so potent it could defeat the Swarm.
Star Watch takes the bait, ordering Captain Maddox to find the lost planet holding the ancient technology.
Ludendorff has a plan involving androids to lure his arch rival - Methuselah Man Strand - to his doom.
The crew of Starship Victory knows nothing of this, and thus blindly enters a web of intrigue and danger. The captain will need the AI Galyan, Valerie, and Riker like never before. Humanity's hope against the coming Swarm holocaust rests on the outcome.
The Lost Planet is the sixth book in the Lost Starship series.

Enough, I think
Although I have enjoyed series (well, most of it), I do think this has reached the end of its journey.
The underhanded dealings of Ludendorff, which we all know will be thwarted by Maddox; the continuing battles with Strand, which we all know, by now, will fail so that they can continue, endlessly; the hysterical Valerie who, no-one with any sense, would allow near a Bridge, let alone control one. Finally, Keith, the Scot who seems to struggle between the Scottish accent and Cockney insofar as no self respecting Scot I know would ever use the terms ‘mate or love’.
I doubt I will get the next book as the series seems to have lost its shine.

Exciting battles if rather quickly sorted out
A good listen and well narrated, the chacters are still a bit 2d, but you get used to it. As with previous books a need to go somewhere came out of nowhere, but provided a good narrative for many a tricky situation to get out of. It all got sorted out a bit quickly and tidily at the end though. Looking forward to the next and maybe last installment of this series as it doesn't look too good for the humans.

An Enticing Sci-Fi Adventure with a Few Hiccups
An Enticing Sci-Fi Adventure with a Few Hiccups
"The Lost Planet," the sixth installment of the Lost Starship series by Vaughn Heppner, propels readers into a high-stakes mission that could determine the fate of Earth against the formidable Swarm threat. Captain Maddox and his crew are tasked with locating ancient Builder technology, a powerful asset that could potentially turn the tide against the relentless Swarm forces. As the narrative unfolds, complex alliances, daring plans, and the familiar cast of characters drive the story forward.
The premise of the book revolves around the impending Swarm holocaust and the desperate need for a countermeasure to level the playing field. The concept of ancient technology and the strategy to lure an arch rival into a trap adds layers of intrigue to the narrative. However, while the storyline is engaging, some elements drew my attention.
The relatively two-dimensional portrayal of characters is something one gets accustomed to, yet it leaves some readers wanting more depth. Additionally, the sudden need for a new mission can feel somewhat contrived. Nevertheless, the narrative's ability to transform seemingly innocuous situations into intricate challenges keeps the story moving at a brisk pace.
As the story progresses, the rapid resolution of conflicts and challenges at the story's climax can be satisfying, but it might also leave some readers wishing for a more elaborate culmination to the tensions built up throughout the narrative.
Despite these critiques, the mix of characters, their interactions, and the intricate plotlines have kept the series enjoyable and engaging. The ongoing battles with Strand and the underhanded dealings of Ludendorff contribute to the series' appeal. Valerie's portrayal and her role on the bridge are noted, as well as Keith's portrayal as a Scot who occasionally shifts between accents.
In conclusion, "The Lost Planet" offers another thrilling installment in the Lost Starship series, combining high-stakes action, intricate strategies, and familiar character dynamics. While there are points of contention, the allure of the narrative's overarching story and the anticipation for the next chapter remain intact. As the series reaches its potential culmination, readers are left pondering the fate of the beloved characters and the universe they inhabit.
