About this listen
Ruthie Gillespie's efforts to find out the truth about a mysterious missing rock star lead her on a terrifying journey into the past.
Researcher Ruthie Gillespie has undertaken a commission to write an essay on Martin Mear, lead singer and guitarist with Ghost Legion, the biggest, most decadent rock band on the planet, before he disappeared without trace in 1975. Her mission is to separate man from myth - but it's proving difficult, as a series of increasingly disturbing and macabre incidents threatens to derail Ruthie's efforts to uncover the truth about the mysterious rock star.
Just what did happen to Martin Mear back in 1975? Is he really set to return from the dead, as the band's die-hard fans, the Legionaries, believe? It's when Ruthie's enquiries lead her to the derelict mansion on the Isle of Wight where Martin wrote the band's breakthrough album that events take a truly terrifying turn....

I also very much liked the links back to the New Hope stories, via Ruth Gillespie. Now The Going and the Rise fits into place too which, when I first read it, it did not.
Thanks so much, Mr Cottam. I hope there may be another visit to Wight before too long. And thanks, too, to David Rintoul for his excellent reading of this.
One of his best

Another great story by F G Cottam

It was a little jarring to have a man narrating with a woman as the main protagonist. He's got a lovely voice to listen to and does a great job, but casting-wise it was a bit distracting with this story, particularly in scenes where it's only women speaking.
I enjoyed it, and might listen to more by the author. If you like supernatural tales but don't want anything too terrifying, this is a great choice.
A solid supernatural thriller - not really horror

That aside I did quite enjoy the story, certainly wanted to know how it ended, but I found that I could easily put the book down to read the paper or something else, but I was able to pick it up again later. Basically I didn't find it at all gripping, but still worth a read!
David Rintoul is becoming one of my favourite narrators!
A good read
