This is another excellent tale from F G Cottam. A nice mix of rock music history combined with a Dark Arts mystery. It has some chilling moments, well delivered by David Rintoul. Best of all it doesn’t try to explain all it’s weird and wonderful moments, which leaves you wondering. As long as you’re not allergic to aspects of music history or Dark Arts adjacent topics, you’ll enjoy this story.

Loved this - the performance, as always, was great. Some nice twists and turns, and as always - the suspense builds and builds. The dog enjoyed some extra long walks thanks to some bits where I just had to continue listening.

Loved this book the story was well paced keeping the reader engaged throughout, characters were interesting and the storyline was both scary and absorbing

Exceptional

Cracking tale of possession, though not in the usual, expected sense. When I finished reading this book on Kindle, I immediately read it again - something I just don't fo normally. Well pleased to find this recording, most excellently performed by David Rintoul. Like all Mr Cottam's creepy, creepy stories, the premise - although actually unlikely - is believable in its context. Those of us old enough to remember the excesses of the great Rock bands in their destructive heyday will appreciate the possibility of this story.

I also very much liked the links back to the New Hope stories, via Ruth Gillespie. Now The Going and the Rise fits into place too which, when I first read it, it did not.

Thanks so much, Mr Cottam. I hope there may be another visit to Wight before too long. And thanks, too, to David Rintoul for his excellent reading of this.

I love this book, the narrator David Rintoul is excellent and brings the characters to life without going in for silly over the top voices. The narrator understands his craft and uses inflection and tone to identify characters which is also a credit to the author for writing rich descriptions and characterisation. This book can be read as a standalone novel or if you know the other work of the author you can identity characters from his back catalogue worked into the story. If you like intelligent writing and a strong story with a twist of supernatural you will not be disappointed.

Very well written, with a nice premise and some good spooky moments, but much more of a thriller than a horror.

It was a little jarring to have a man narrating with a woman as the main protagonist. He's got a lovely voice to listen to and does a great job, but casting-wise it was a bit distracting with this story, particularly in scenes where it's only women speaking.

I enjoyed it, and might listen to more by the author. If you like supernatural tales but don't want anything too terrifying, this is a great choice.

A solid supernatural thriller - not really horror

I enjoyed this book up to a point, parts of it were over the top to my mind. I don't mean the spooky spiritual stuff that was needed for the story, I just don't understand the concept of such excessive and obsessive hero worship of a pop star.

That aside I did quite enjoy the story, certainly wanted to know how it ended, but I found that I could easily put the book down to read the paper or something else, but I was able to pick it up again later. Basically I didn't find it at all gripping, but still worth a read!

David Rintoul is becoming one of my favourite narrators!
