Summary

Discover the gripping sequel to Namina Forna's New York Times best-selling YA fantasy, The Gilded Ones. Set in an ancient West African-inspired world, this series is perfect for fans of Children of Blood and Bone and Black Panther.

It's been six months since Deka freed the goddesses in the ancient kingdom of Otera and discovered who she really is...but war is waging across the kingdom, and the real battle has only just begun. For there is a dark force growing in Otera—a merciless power that Deka and her army must stop.

Yet hidden secrets threaten to destroy everything Deka has known. And with her own gifts changing, Deka must discover if she holds the key to saving Otera...or if she might be its greatest threat.

The Merciless Ones is the second, thrilling installment of the epic fantasy series in which a young heroine fights against a world that would dare tame her.

The Merciless Ones

This book is a great sequal to the Gilded Ones. All the character are very well developed and it makes you feel as if you are in the story.Thr Merciless ones has a very good ending which leads me to believe that there is going to be another excellent book written.

Why did it have to end

I shall be patiently waiting for the next book. The same love I had for the first book the gilded ones is that same love I have for this book too. Incredible, the story , the plot twist and the performance extremely beautiful.

Another triumph

I read the first book last autumn, and when the opportunity arose to read this/listen to it, I had to take it. And it was just as good as The Gilded Ones. Can't wait for the next installment!

as good as the first

it's not often that a sequel is as good as the first book, but this book hit the mark entirely as a perfect sequel book. an amazing story and I absolutely loved this narrator, certainly better than the first book. I can't wait for the third book!

It was a mediocre sequel

I felt like some of the story was very cliche and predictable. Deka has lots of diatribe monologue which I felt droned on. I get where the author was going as in trying to build suspense but I felt like she just missed the mark at times. In saying that it wasn’t bad and I’d still be interested to know how the story ends. It’s just this book didn’t grip me compared to the first book!
