This is the way,Billingham gives us one of the best yet,it doesn’t disappoint.
Recently tried his latest stand alone thriller but, despite a great performance by Maxine Peake,I just couldn’t get to grips and it remains unfinished.
You can’t beat Thorne along with many other familiar characters and the return of his nemesis gives us a gripping narrative.
For the second time in a couple of weeks I did not see the ending coming and I look forward to seeing where we go from here with another dark episode to add to various back stories .Let’s hope for many more in this riveting series.

Mark B writes delicious murder books and this Murder Book is one of his best. I love Tom Thorne and always feel that he’s a man in need of a good hug 🫠…and the twist at the end, I did not see coming. Do yourself a favour and get this book today.

The story is terrific. So many twists and turns. So many things I just could not guess. Quite unusual and I like the way in which the story was about more than just the detective. I can see this guy developing more and more...

The performance

Brilliant - as usual!

Reading the blurb on this pre release gave you the clues as to who was making a reappearance in this book, it didn’t however tell you about the twists and turns.

Great plot.
The narration was good, much prefer the author narration to the earlier releases which weren’t the author.

Works as a stand alone novel but much better enjoyed if you’ve read the series.

I very much enjoyed this latest Tom Thorne book, and can't wait for the next, for a minute there I thought this might be the last! Thankfully, it doesn't appear to be!!! Congregations Mark Billingham, you have done it again!

Well what fun! Great plot, really interesting characters and the narration by the author is just fab.The meaning of every sentence is crystal clear which isn’t always the case in audio books. His acting skills are another bonus.

Narrator telling his own story-it really works!

I've loved all the D.I. Tom Thorne books from the first up to this one.
Obviously there are very grim scenes but these are necessary to see why Thorne is so determined to find the killers.
I really like Thorne's irreverence towards some of the attitudes of the higher ranking officers (reminds me of myself)! I laugh out loud at the sarcastic banter between him and his friend, Dr. Phil Hendricks, Senior Pathologist. I love Mark Billingham's narration, especially Phil's droll Mancunian accent, although I would prefer the women in the stories to have a female narrator as there's not much difference between the men and women's voices; they all sound much like Thorne!
I definitely recommend this series to any fans of crime novels.
