About this listen
In The Name of the Wind, Patrick Rothfuss brings together elements from all the great fantasy writers, from George R. R. Martin to Robert Jordan, to create a thrilling and intricately spun story that will leave you breathless.
I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the university at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.
My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.
So begins the tale of Kvothe - currently known as Kote, the unassuming innkeeper - from his childhood in a troupe of travelling players, through his years spent as a near feral orphan in a crime riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic.
In these pages you will come to know Kvothe the notorious magician, the accomplished thief, the masterful musician, the dragon-slayer, the legend hunter, the lover, the thief and the infamous assassin.
The Name of the Wind is fantasy at its very best.

The characters are strong and truly interesting. The magic seemed really possible. The world they all lived in, so down to earth one believed it all to be real. A delightful listen."Can't put it down" type of listen.

And you know what? No. I liked this book. It was entertaining, there was story, there were things happening and I was interested in the characters. So many have complained about this book not treating women like people, or how the main character is the best at everything he does, and so on. But seriously?
This IS a story about a remarkable boy that does remarkable things, not everyone in all the stories has to be completely flawed yet manage to work through all their flaws and save the world.
And yeah, women weren't the strongest and they weren't the focus, but that's not what this book was about. Tell me the girl who is like Denna or Auri and is NOT strong by surviving they ways they do and choosing it themselves. You can always find things to complain about, had Denna been immensely strong the problem would be that the author tried too hard, had she been very weak then oh he is sexist, had she been completely plain he would also be sexist. In todays society there simply is no way to please all, and this story is not trying to do that.
So no, I don't think this was a bad Harry Potter fake out, this is a story about a remarkable boy and his adventures. Let him be remarkable, it's interesting.
This was good, despite the reviews!

There are great complex characters and an interesting story with many arcs and moving pieces. I loved the magic type used and that good and bad things happen to the protagonist, it gets pretty dark and the side tracks make sense. I immediately bought the next book.
