About this listen

Three troubled women. One deadly secret.

Lissy and her daughter, Rosie, live a quiet life in Yorkshire. However, when events at Rosie’s school come to light, their peaceful existence is shattered.

Meanwhile, middle-aged women Erica and Beverley appear to have perfect lives, but behind closed doors, things are not as they seem.

All three women are tied together by a dark past that goes back to their school days. A child was murdered, and one of the women is to blame. But is the person responsible for the child’s death the same person who was blamed for it all those years ago?

As secrets from their past begin to surface, it becomes clear that someone has revenge in their sights....

I liked the overall storey however it took me a while to get in to due to the narration.

Was an ok book!

I found it really hard to get into because I didn’t like the narrators voice. Felt she sang the book. Found it infuriating. Continued with it and quite enjoyed the story and wanted to see how it would end.

let down by narration

storyline okay. let down by narration as characters sound the same, slow narration and no tone to voice.

struggled

took me 2 attempts to listen to this book, and I don't think it was the story so much as the narration. I struggled to recognise the characters as they all sounded the same...females that is. So it made a difficult listen. Glad I made it to the end as I liked it.

Nice story, stomach-turning narration

The 'teasing' nature of the first part of this story was irritating. Too much 'if only she knew about the thing I did' and 'ooh that thing they don't know about is my big secret', instead of getting to the point. That said, the interwoven character dynamics were good and kept me wanting to know how it all panned out. I wish I'd read the book instead of listening to the unfathomably overblown yet condescendingly clodhopping narration, because I think the story is far more intelligent and sophisticated than the audiobook makes it sound. The narrator makes almost every character sound stupid, slow or overly dramatic (with some bizarre pronunciations that sound like a southerner's idea of how those 'simple folk up north' speak) and sometimes contradicts the written description. 'NuuuOOOOOOOHHHH, MUUUUUUUM!' Rosie whispered. Truly horrible, and almost ruined the book.

Loud swallows from Narrator

Took two attempts to get into narrators mouth noises and loud swallows were very off putting- however once I got into the story I enjoyed it

Very irritating narration

Clever plot. Good storyline pace. Totally wrecked by OTT narration. Some narrative inflection and interpretation is helpful but this was just far too histrionic. I was relieved to reach the end and only persevered because of the excellent story.

Lots of emotions raised

Nearly gave up on this book as l found it difficult to follow initially but so glad l didn’t l found Lizzie a bit annoying and often wanted to shake her from being the victim and accepting her fate not sure if this was what the author intended however; Erica and Beverly were always In the frame as the bad guys and l thought very plausible- this is only y second audible book and lm very pleased with my choice
