About this listen
Clark Griswold was onto something...at least with his annual holiday meltdown. And since the last three weeks of my life have been riddled with humbug—another breakup, a broken toe, an office promotion I deserved and didn’t get—I’m not at all in the mood to celebrate nor have the happ, happ, happiest Christmas EVER.
When Mom insisted that we all gather at my Grandparent’s ancient cabin for an old school family Christmas, I fully intended to get into the holiday spirit with the help of the three wise men, Johnnie Walker, Jack Daniels, and Jim Beam. But those boys did absolutely nothing to offset the shock or temper the sting of seeing my EX on our doorstep the first day of our holiday soiree.
Apparently, Santa missed the memo, and this elf is pissed.
Stuck for a week with the man who obliterated my heart nearly two decades ago, I did the only thing I could do and put on my game face, thankful for the home advantage.
I knew better than to drink that last cup of eggnog. I knew better than to get tongue tangled beneath the mistletoe with the only man to ever break my heart. I knew better than to sleep with Satan’s wingman on the eve of the Lord’s birthday.
I could blame the nog. I could blame the deceitful light blue eyes, thick, angelic hair, and panty evaporating smirk…but mostly, I blame Eli because he always knew exactly which of my buttons to push.
I foolishly thought a family Christmas filled with nostalgia was going to turn my inner Scrooge around, but this year’s festivities went up in flames. Leave it to the ghost of my Christmas past to be the one to light the match.
Fa la la la la, la FML.
The Plight Before Christmas is a full-length, second-chance Christmas-themed romance and that's most definitely on Santa's NAUGHTY LIST!

Funny and emotional
A very well written Christmas story. The children were extremely well written and the sibling/family banter was great. This audio book is in duet narration and as always Joe and Maxine do an excellent job 🎄.

Absolutely fantastic
I loved this story and will have to admit i read it once and have listened to it twice already and I only bought the e-book mid October this year. I’ve since got the audio and paperback copies.
It’s soooo funny and mad me shed a few tears but all ends well.
I will no doubt read and or listen to it every year.
Kate Stewart is an amazing author, I read my first book by her during March 23 this year and am going to have to slowly work my way through all her books especially if they are as good as the few I have already read.

Well written, emotional journey of self discovery and growth.
What a heart felt and heartbreaking tale about lost time, regrets, growth and second chances. Beautifully narrated, I felt every emotion, the heart break and then the elation of that second chance. Made me think long and hard about my own second chance and growth. Thanks Kate and the team who brought it to life.

So much more than a Christmas romance
Loved this. Funny, emotional, heartbreaking. Had me laughing out loud, crying, all the feels. Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell once again did an amazing jobs bringing these characters to life.

Another hit for Kate Stewart
After devouring Kate Stewart's The Ravenhood trilogy in a matter of days I decided to go for another one of her books. This author is fast becoming my favourite! She has a way with words that makes me feel emotions other books don't. Full of laughter, love, heartache and healing it was just what I needed after the devastation she caused me during The Ravenhood trilogy. I loved the links to RH with an appearance from a certain someone, a nod to a boutique and even the weed selling deli guy!
I'm betting this will be revisited year after year around the Christmas holidays. Brilliant narration again from Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell that tops it all off *Chefs kiss*

Excellent blend realistic family bickering and romantic angst
Outstanding performances by Joe and Maxine really brought this story to life.
A more realistic depiction of family dynamics at Christmas with a good mix of humour, angst and tragedy.
Highly recommend this audio book.
