Informative and engaging
Factual and knowledge based information that helped to prepare us for the birth of our first child. The tone is calm and caring, with a humourous side too. I really enjoyed listening to the author read her book, which I would thoroughly recommend to any new mothers.

Really Brilliant For First Time Mum
I’ve found this book to be the perfect preparation for birth, I now feel more informed and able to make the decisions that feel right for me on the run up to having my first baby. I’d highly recommend to anyone who feels overwhelmed by information, choice and anyone who feels a bit clueless about everything from pain relief to how to plan for things not going to plan.

A must listen for all pregnant women…
A brilliant source of information for pregnant women and their birth partner(s).
Milli’s narration is perfect and talks you through all aspects of birth as though you’ve gone for a coffee and cake break with a mate.

Positively Informative Empowering
It was my husband who got me this book after some research of his own, before we even decided if we were going to go through this process as I have tokophobia (fear of pregnancy and childbirth).
I had to choose carefully when was the right times to listen to it as I can find certain topics triggering, but Milli did a great job at keeping a very positive voice throughout and making the reader feel empowered, reminding them that they have OPTIONS, rights and valid thoughts.
All in all great overview of important topics through pregnancy and a bit beyond. I had my mind set on c section and I still do, but I've become a lot more confident in my journey now that I've learned more about childbirth and what it can be like for different people.
It is true to that she pushes towards some options more than others, but I personally would rather read an honest author than a completely impartial one and at no point did I feel excluded or disrespected.
Very grateful for this book, we need more voices like this. Love that she read it too! Made me think of how many babies will be familiarised with her voice even from the womb!
I would 100% recommend, even for second time parents!

Empowering
Good pace, included birth rights and how to write your birth plan. Good section on breastfeeding but i would have liked more science on antibodies and micro biome that many lay people are less aware of.

Absolutely brilliant
This book really helped me prepare physically and emotionally for the later stages of pregancy and birth. An informative must read which left me feeling truly empowered about my options and how to improve and prioritise mine and my baby's safety and wellbeing through the pregancy and birth. Every woman shoukd be given this book when booking in their pregancy!

So many better books out there
I really really tried with this book. It had positive reviews and was on a mumsnet recommendation list, but god did it annoy me.
The author, who doesn’t seem to have any scientific grounding, regurgitates personal experience and choice anecdotes as fact. Studies are presented with conclusions that are just correlations, not causation.
It pushes home births in a way that made me concerned. Modern medicine is a wonderful thing, it should be embraced at the first point. I wonder why the author thinks so many women in history died or suffered horrible complications who didn’t have any option other than home births - maybe they didn’t have enough scented candles, fairly lights or home birthing pools!
My labour should be a breeze after pushing through this!
If you’d looking for a recommendation try the modern midwife’s guide to pregnancy instead.
