I greatly enjoyed Simon Jones' reading of Book 1 of the Bartimaeus Trilogy, but I haven't been able to buy the audio version of Book 2 because of purchase restrictions to listeners like myself living outside the UK. So I wasn't sure if The Ring of Solomon would make much sense. In fact, it was brilliant as a stand-alone story and I found Jeff Rawle's characterizations even wittier and more entertaining than those of Simon Jones. Highly recommended.

Witty and immensely entertaining. Sharp characters and endearing traits all make for a great listen. Effective narration to go along with it.

For those of you who have already experienced the intrigue, fast pace and wit that surrounds Bartimaeus - hold onto your hats, he's off again! I listen to "Barti" with my 12 year old son on car journeys and I cannot recommend Jonathan Stroud's work highly enough. He delivers exciting and literate adventures that not only entertain, but provide ample opportunities for discussion about the plot, its setting and characters. We have listened to the trilogy and now Solomon. The humour is wonderful throughout and the narration perfect. Enjoy! - these stories are a rare gem.

Stroud’s strong world-building and three- dimensional characters come alive in reading by Rawle. Suitable for children over 11 and young adults, but equally entertaining for adult audiences who need something witty, light and unusual. I read this as a child and have returned to it for light entertainment after just finishing my degree, and enjoyed it just as much the second time round. Throughly recommend any of Stroud’s books, particularly read by Rawle.

So great to find another Bartimaeus book - the character is just so likeable! This story is set many years before the events of the original trilogy, looking back on some of Bartimaeus's adventures with King Solomon, which he so often referred to in the other books. Very enjoyable. The reading performance is good too, though I listened to this very shortly after the other trilogy (which was read by a different narrator) so I found it a bit difficult to adjust to the new interpretation.

the series is absolute pure gold!! brilliant, witty and engaging! I loved every second of it and wish there were more adventures to read but alas I've read all of them!!!

I would recommend this book to anybody wanting a fantastic story that is different and well narrated with the quirky style that is written by Jonathon Stroud

I was sceptical about a new narrator after Steven Pacey did such a fine job with the Trilogy, but was more than happy with this performance. The narrator really brought the whole thing to life. A great book full of a lovely sense of cheeky humour, held my attention right to the last minute.
