About this listen

Living among the Sachakan rebels, Lorkin does his best to learn about them and their unique magic. But the Traitors are reluctant to trade their knowledge for the Healing they so desperately want, and while he assumes they fear revealing their existence to the world, there are hints they have bigger plans.

Sonea searches for the rogue, knowing that Cery cannot avoid assassination forever, but the rouge's influence over the city's underworld is far greater than she feared. His only weakness is the loss of his mother, now locked away in the Lookout.

In Sachaka, Dannyl has lost the respect of the Sachakan elite for letting Lorkin join the Traitors. The Ashaki's attention has shifted, instead, to the new Elyne Ambassador, a man Dannyl knows all too well.

And in the University, two female novices are about to remind the Guild that sometimes their greatest enemy is found within.

Narration was good

I’ve read a few other reviews and after my second listen to this book I still find the book enjoyable and the voices are great!

Pronunciation is annoying

The narrator says “esca-pee” rather than escape-ee (escapee). And Son-ee-ah for Sonia (Sonya). Amongst a myriad of other oddities. It’s like listening to South Africans trying to speak English.
Story is slow, but you’ll expect that if you’re used to this author.
Generally the first 2 books in each series are setups to the 3rd which is usually pretty good. I’d recommend it if you can get past these small issues. Then narrator does his best to use accents, so it’s alright once you’re used to it.

the narration spoiled an otherwise good book

if you like fantasy this author delivers a great story with great imagination. the landscape is somehow familiar yet intriguingly different. there is a pace and excitement to the novel. the narrator is however quite awful lacking any real variation oif tone and making every character sound the same,

disappointing story good performed

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Pity, I had bought this book. It was a waste of time, to hear this unsatisfying story.

What was most disappointing about Trudi Canavan’s story?

I enjoyed the first novels of Trudy Canavan much. But this book is too much about guy love and lesbian love and consuming drugs.
The real storyline is often only in the background of this boring love-or-not-love-dreams.

Which character – as performed by Richard Aspel – was your favourite?

Sonia

If this book were a film would you go see it?

No. Definitely not.

Any additional comments?

It? s a shame, this weak book in this interesting series.

Just perfect

Mr Aspel brings alive the wonderful creations of Trudi Canavan.

with his note worthy tonal quality and the quick paced story, this combination is perfect.

👍

The story was immersive and compelling.
The narraator could be better at distinguishig the characters voices however.

Gripping tale

This is a great instalment in the series. I would recommend any of Trudi Cannavan's books.

'Wild' story, well read.

Yet another great story from Trudi Canavan, I can't wait to read the final installment.

Story still is nice & continues well :-)

As the previous instalments, I found The Rogue to be very enjoyable. Characters develop further, and fascinating new ones appear; and even the plot still offers some nicely surprising twists.
As before, I have much appreciation for the narrators efforts, yet still have not become used to his grating voice, which therefore slightly lessens my pleasure of listening.
