Summary

Darren has two big talents: cricket and trouble. It is no surprise, then, that he becomes an Australian sporting star of the bad-boy variety - one of those men who's always got away with things and just keeps going...until the day we meet him, middle aged and in the boot of a car, and everything pointing towards a shallow grave.

Gripping suspense from the Ned Kelly Award-winning author of Quota.

BRILLIANT

Such an enjoyable listen - gritty, smooth, engrossing. An author to follow - will be looking out for more works.

What a ride!

Loved this.
Brilliantly narrated and really pacey thriller.
Loved the cricketing theme but even if not a fan is still a great read!

Gripping and brilliant

Unexpectedly great; some violent grimness punctuates a gripping and compelling plot. Might help if you have a minor interest in cricket but I think it would translate to anyone.

The Best!

This is a fantastically written book and the narration brings it to life. At first the emphasis on cricket made us wonder whether it was a good choice for us but the plot carried it through to end up being one of if not the Best of many, many audible books we’ve heard. I only hope Jock Serong keeps them coming.

Just once in a while ....

Just once in a while you find a book which is a complete surprise. This book was one such, the story was woven beautifully and this kept the suspense taught. The cricket was almost an page filler but was an examination of cricket and the possible effect that organised betting syndicates can have on sport and why sport is so massively important to millions around the country.

The narration too was excellent. I really enjoyed this book.

A work of fiction?

Incredible

Just incredible. Amazing narration. Unique story. Clever writing. A joy to listen to. I was a bit put off by the summary and resisted it for ages even though I love the narrator, but I highly recommend. Simply the best.

Couldn't finish this

I'm not sure who thought this was gripping suspense but they should be reported to trade descriptions. Maybe an avid cricket fan might enjoy it but it is only the second book in all my years of listening that I didn't finish.
