A legend of gold, buried and never found, and a young man determined to find it.
Michael Bunker's oh-too-short story is recounted as if by the father of a boy who goes missing after they decide to search out the truth of the legend of the Santa Anna gold for themselves by actively seeking to find the supposedly undiscovered buried treasure. Trouble is, to do this they have, somehow, to go back in time. Does the son find it or is it all in the father's imagination?
Beautifully crafted, the tale is perfectly enhanced by the narration of Alex Silver. His deliciously (Texan?) accented voice gently reminisces about how they went about their search and how it ended. The performance is intimate, as if the listener is sitting near to the older man as he recalls the memory of that time.
A delightful book definitely recommended.
