Winner of the Glass Key award

Jussi Adler-Olsen returns with his most captivating and suspenseful novel yet.

In a Copenhagen park, the body of an elderly woman is discovered. Though the case bears a striking resemblance to another unsolved homicide from over a decade ago, the police cannot find any connection between the two victims. Across town, a group of young women are being hunted down. The attacks seem random, but could these brutal acts of violence be related? Detective Carl Mørck of Department Q is charged with solving the mystery.

Back at headquarters, Carl and his team are under pressure to deliver results: failure to meet his superiors' expectations will mean the end of Department Q. Solving the case, however, is not their only concern. After a breakdown, their colleague Rose is struggling to deal with the ghosts of her past - a past seemingly connected to one of the division's most sinister case-files. It is up to Carl, Assad and Gordon to unearth the dark and violent truth plaguing Rose before it is too late.

Perfect for fans of Stieg Larsson and Jo Nesbo.

Difficult listen

Enjoyed the story despite the narrator who would be great at reading children’s stories. It was rather like listening to one song sung to the tune of another.

Slow start

What did you like most about The Scarred Woman?

narration very good, but why keep changing the reader.

What does Saul Reichlin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Have always liked his style. But compared to the first thee books his accents are different so it probably accounts for the adverse comments of other reports.

Any additional comments?

It started on the slow side, so I started listening twice before getting into it.

Brilliant

So good to have Saul Reichlin back. I went back to old fashioned reading when someone else took over.
Another great complicated plot as well as getting to the bottom of the Rose story. Perhaps we'll get the Assad background soon

Returned and repurchased and I'm so glad I did

Without reading any reviews I automatically purchased the next book of the series as I really enjoyed the storyline. And then, boom: a new narrater. I was so shocked and disappointed that I straight away returned the book as I wanted to stay within the comfort of the previous narrater.
Few months down the line I was still bugged with the storyline as I did want to know what has happened. I repurchased the book and it was all fine and well. After the initial shock of change of the familiar voice it was perfectly fine a few months down the line.
So, if you have enjoyed the previous books but not so much the new narrater I would say, just give yourself a few weeks or months and carry on with the story because it is so worth it! So much unexpected and exciting turns and new info!
I'm certainly glad I didn't give up on this series because I hope we can enjoy each others company a little longer with following books in the series.

Not his best

Stretched the bounds of credulity too far and was generally too long. Also too many last second escapes / discoveries! European drama but written in American which is annoying for any anyone English!

The author can do better than this - and usually does.

What Happened to Department Q!

The first 3 books were great. The last one was ruined by the narrator... And now this one is just utterly tedious!
I'm struggling to get thru it.
The life has gone, the humour has gone, the translation seems to have been done by someone completely different.
It's like it's been written, translated and narrated by the Authors grandfather.
I'll stick with it because it's cost me a credit but jeeeez I won't be bothering with anymore I'll go back to listening to the first books to take this sense of utter disappointment away...

Change of direction

Not I was expecting, based on the other Department Q's but a good read nonetheless

better still

Seldom does an author get better as the series goes on. Olsen has held enough back to be able to do so. We know his characters in the imperfect way that we might, should we mix with them.

The plot was deliciously satisfying, even if a bit of a stretch. Gives us soap opera, a picture of state heavy Denmark and comically imperfect characters that we can get behind.

Just don't think he's taken Department Q to its zenith yet.
