About this listen

Emma Cooper is determined to fulfill her mother's dying wish to scatter her ashes with Aiden Sheffield in Linx, Texas. Just one problem. Why Texas and who the hell is Aiden Sheffield? The only clue is a faded piece of her mother's stationary. Emma imagines Aiden is a former love of her mother's, but when she meets the beautiful, damaged stranger, she realizes her assumptions couldn't be more wrong. He's hot and young. And Emma is as confused as ever.

Aiden Sheffield would rather go to hell than Linx. Who does Emma think she is disrupting his carefully built life? The last thing the Marine needs is to slice open the sealed wounds of his painful past. Yet, as he gets to know the lovely Emma, a woman who manages to smile even though she's lost everything, he changes his mind. He will not let her go to hell alone.

But neither is prepared for the devastating evil waiting for them at the end of the road. It might just destroy them.

Contains mature themes.

Awful book - very disappointed

Really poor imitation of this genre of book. Seems like it has been written by someone who loves reading books, and had a bright idea one day that they could write one too ..but liking reading is NOT synonymous with being able to write a book yourself.

It’s a really odd read. It’s like a jigsaw of pieces where the author has captured all their favourite features/scenes from books they’ve read, and pieced it together into a story. There is absolutely zero chemistry between the characters, and the story goes through all the peaks and journey you’d expect from this type of story - but fails to take you on the journey with them. It lacks any soul and leaves you completely empty, and many times I just found it painful. Dramatic and emotional situations are there in words, but do not remotely come alive as a story. Stereotypical baddies and goodies, but again, their interactions lack anything engaging so the story falls flat. Don’t get me started on the ending - the story and writing goes from bad to worse there.

The author obviously enjoys reading this genre but they just don’t have skill in writing. As harsh as it sounds, they really should give it up. If there was a spark of something to encourage, I would, but really they should do something else.

The narrators have decent voices, by their intonation, pacing and telling of the story leaves you struggling to engage emotionally at all. Don’t know if it’s because the story itself is lacking, or because they need more practice. I think both narrators have huge potential with a bit of practice and guidance.
