About this listen
A gathering of seven bestselling crime writers at a Scottish Highlands book festival turns deadly in a wickedly dark thriller that pays homage to Agatha Christie's classic murder mysteries, from the bestselling author of The Bonnie Dead.
When legendary crime novelist William MacRae is found dead in suspicious circumstances at his Glasgow home, Police Scotland's premier investigator DCI John Lomond is put on the case.
After discovering a list of seven bestselling authors–all old friends of MacRae's–Lomond and his team head north to the Ullapool Book Festival, where the seven are gathering to remember their fallen friend.
But a vicious storm is closing in. And not everyone, it seems, has fond memories of MacRae. Or each other.
Cut off from the outside world at a remote country home, it doesn't take long for the whisky to flow, old resentments to reignite…and another dead body to appear.
Over the course of one weekend, Lomond must sift through a web of red herrings, secrets, and lies.
One of them is a killer. But can Lomond unmask them before it's too late?

Enjoyable but a bit flawed
As a stand alone story, this got away with it’s outlandish plot and cliched setting because it was a bit of ‘fun’.
Taking an established, gritty, Scottish detective into an Agatha Christie style scenario was an ok departure to try, but once is enough.
It was like sticking Taggart in Midsomer Murders. It could easily be avoided by DCI Lomond fans, but an ok listen for the completists amongst us!

Gripping from the start
Great storyline. Fantastic reading performance. Scottish accent makes it authentic. Andrew Raymond didn’t disappoint yet again. Hope there will be many more

A solid ok
Love the author and narrator but the story was a bit boring for me. Sorry. Hard to get invested in it. Can’t really put my finger why exactly but I think it’s because it’s hard to care about any of the characters, they unfortunately sounded like those from other books/authors that Angus King has narrated; and the storyline was drawn out and a bit plodding. Fairly average all round.

Good listen but a bit confusing
Angus King does another great job with narration. A pretty confusing and over-complicated story with a lot of characters all with a potential motive for murder. Lots of parallels to be drawn with Agatha Christie and her locked room mystery novels.
Probably not as good as the first Lomond book, but am looking forward to the next in the series.

Perfect!
I absolutely loved this. I'm a huge Agatha Christie fan and this was so clever. I laughed out loud at a few points too.
As always Angus King is perfect. Can't wait for more of this series!
