About this listen
From the number-one international best-selling author of Holy Island and Impostor.
A murder for the history books.
After a long and eventful winter, DCI Ryan and his team are looking forward to the joys of spring. But, when one of their colleagues is shot dead on her own doorstep and the brass think it’s an inside job, Ryan finds himself drafted in to investigate.
He’s barely scratched the surface when reports flood in of a terror explosion at Durham Cathedral. Chaos descends on the sleepy, historic city and, when the smoke clears, they find a priceless artefact that once belonged to Saint Cuthbert is missing.
With tensions running at an all-time high, unable to trust the local police, can Ryan and his team bring a killer to justice — and restore Cuthbert’s cross to its natural resting place?
Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunit set amidst the spectacular landscape of County Durham.

Strange ending?
I have enjoyed this series of books but like many reviewers I’m finding that the books are getting shorter and shorter. The plot is there, they just need to be written better. This story had a great plot But it felt as if it was tied up too quickly. There is also a very strange epilogue which I presume feeds into the next story? Narrator is good, but dies a truly terrible Liverpool accent at one point!

Great narration but your only paying for half a story !!!
I concur with others who have left reviews .
You are paying for only half a story . The audio books have been halved in length from those at the beginning of the series . The stories have hooked you in to the characters and Johnathan Keebles narration was truly wonderful. But the last few books in the series have got predictable and now only getting half a story . I don’t think I will be rushing back to an L.J.Ross story for a while.

Short changed half delivered?
Love the performance and characters. Story was only half delivered. 14 (?) stories in is it really necessary for the character recaps. Disappointing to not conclude the story.

Average story
The characters and story are predictable. The emphasis on the brooding main character is a bit tedious. The story is ok but there are better crime stories to listen to.

To Short
Agree with other general consensus that books at 16 becoming shorter. Like an old glove tho enjoy the characters greatly. Book 17 next then 18 mid March lockdown made a little easier with these to read and as we ease out they finish a new feeling of what next......

The Shrine.
One of DCI Ryan’s colleagues is shot dead on her own doorstep and Ryan is pulled in to investigate.
Meanwhile his wife pregnant wife Anna, is caught up an explosion in Durham Cathedral.
Is this explosion the reason that a priceless artefact that had belonged to Saint Cuthbert, is missing.
Another mix of murder, mystery, romance and humour! Perfect for lockdown!

the shrine
I absolutely love this series of books by LJ Ross, the ups and downs that are experienced emotionally while listening, not only the words from the book but also the delivery from a narrator as exquisite as jonathan.
I cannot wait for the next instalment :)

Good but Not gripping
As ever the performance of the narrator was brilliant and I wish he would do all the audio books I listen to.
Again I enjoyed the story but feel these last few books are missing the edge of your seat story twists that were in the start of the series. Hoping the next ones have it in abundance to make up for these last 2.
Still a massive fan of the characters though and would eagerly watch them all if turned into a TV drama at any point.
