Summary
The Sunday Times Top 10 Best seller.
Kieran Elliott's life changed forever on a single day when a reckless mistake led to devastating consequences. The guilt that haunts him still resurfaces during a visit with his young family to the small coastal town he once called home.
Kieran's parents are struggling in a community which is bound, for better or worse, to the sea that is both a lifeline and a threat. Between them all is his absent brother, Finn.
When a body is discovered on the beach, long-held secrets threaten to emerge in the murder investigation that follows. A sunken wreck, a missing girl and questions that have never washed away....

Another winner from Jane Harper
The story did meander slightly, but another book that I listened to in one day - could not put it down.

Another great story from Jane Harper
There's no messing about with Jane's books, you get a straight-through narrative with some flashbacks but only when they're integral to the story. The narration did the book justice so 5 stars all round!

Good but not as brilliant as her previous books.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, the narration was excellent but the story isn't as strong as her previous ones. That said I'd still class it as one of my better listens.

Another Good One
Jane Harper did not disappoint with this one, she has the knack of getting me gripped from the first few paragraphs. Great story and characters really enjoyed this. Other narrators could take note from Stephen Shanahan as he is excellent in bringing in all the different characters without overdoing it.

Dragged a bit.
Ok Story, but plodded a bit , lacked pace.
Could have done with another story intertwined for a bit more edge.

Kept me guessing!
Love Jane Harper’s writing style- really descriptive and evocative. The story was carefully crafted and kept me guessing- although the ending was not so surprising to be unrealistic. It did not disappoint. Looking forward to Jane’s next novel!

Misses the high bar set by previous novels.
Looked forward to this as Harper’s previous three had been a suspenseful and entertaining. This falls short of that with a cast of pretty uninteresting characters and plot that just doesn’t get going or have the unseen twist of The Dry or The Lost Man.

Worthwhile listen
I had meant to start with The Dry but chose this one by accident.
Great narration and I thought the book was very well written. Very relatable in many ways with the descriptions of the characters lives and feelings.
Not the most exciting story but it was believable and kept me interested. I was moved by Verity and Brian - the writer does an excellent job with these characters in particular.

literally a cliff hanger
what a story! Brilliantly evocative narration that had me hooked from the start. I could almost smell the sea and feel the waves crashing into the caves. Great book from a great author who is able to pluck very different stories from her imagination in every one of her books. Literally couldn't stop listening to find out the conclusion
