About this listen

"I didn't realize how much I would miss grocery shopping until it was gone."

Life was pretty good. The love of Alice's life had proposed, they were proud new homeowners, and she'd just landed a great promotion at work. Things were going to plan.

Well, they were, until the Red Death struck.

Billions dead in a matter of weeks. The survivors are few and far between. No one is safe. Life will never be the same again.

The behaviour of the main protagonist and her friends is often a bit ridiculous. For example, her the refusal to accept fairly obvious facts is annoying and why does no one take even basic security precautions?

The narrator’s voice is quite monotone - I found slowing down the speed helped a bit.

Having said that, I was quite interested in what happened next, but the author doesn’t seem to have had her sequel published. It was in final editing stage in early 2020 according to her FB page, but nothing seems to have happened since as far as I could determine. This is very annoying, as Survivors ends on a cliffhanger!

Ok in parts

I think the story started well but it ended abruptly its no real point . Shame really. Also dodgy American accent .

The way she repeated the same words over and over very annoying and won’t bother with any follow up

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. As someone who loves apocalyptic novels it’s so good to read one where the main character is female and relatable. Has flaws but is likeable. So many in the genre are of men that are God’s gift so to speak and it’s unrealistic and boring.
This was great and I’m really looking forward to reading more.

Brilliant!

I enjoyed listening to this book and will listen to the next book too. Nicely written and set in Victoria, where I grew up. Believable story.

Easy listen

Good story, medioca but was ok to read. Not enough action or excitement foe me but I'd still say it's a good read. Worth a read.

Good story relasitc

Apocalyptic story set in Aus about a flu that wiped most people out. Society as we know it stops! Produced 1 year before the Covid pandemic!!

Great listen. Scary premise!

Much of this book is an enjoyable and believable story. I’ve had a penchant for post apocalyptic stories since my teenage years, but they are all too often directed at American gun loving survivalist nut jobs and I find that quite boring and frankly dangerous. So I was pleasantly surprised to find a non gun worshipping female lead and an Australian setting. But the story moved a little too slowly for me and the ravages of a post pandemic world were only slowly coming to light as the book ended. Despite this I’d happily buy into book number two!

Interesting take but lacking in dynamism.

I enjoyed it not too deep and horrible considering the story line, a good listen, but I prefer a story with aircraft (so not my usual listen, good though).

A wife’s book

I really enjoyed this - a very relatable storyline, given our experience of Covid (albeit not as drastic!) and a good performance by the narrator. I echo the frustrations shared by others about the cliffhanger ending…and still no sign of Book II! Still definitely worth a listen, as a Plus Catalogue offer.

A very enjoyable book!
