Summary

The best-selling sci-fi thriller that blends healthy living and lots of dying

Ben Stone is terrified. He's terrified because he weighs 601 pounds and needs his right leg amputating. He's terrified because a crane will shortly lift him from his fourth-floor flat and lower him 44 feet to an ambulance waiting below. He's terrified because he hasn't been outside in nine years, and he doesn't know who will look after his beautiful dog.

He needn't worry, though, because the world is about to end.

A wonderful story about a man and his dog trying to survive the apocalypse!

This is not your typical apocalyptic story as it’s about a severely obese man who is trapped in his flat with his best friend, a dog called brown.
The book is split in to 2 parts, the before part is describing what happened before the apocalypse, while the after part is (as you’ve probably guessed by now!) what happens to him after the day of the ‘event’.
The book pulls you straight into the action from the very first page!
Having read this story before, I was so pleased when it came out on audio book as it means I can now listen to it while cooking and doing my arts and crafts.

Left me laughing and crying simultaneously at the end!

Grabbed my attention from the very beginning, I thoroughly enjoyed the development Ben went through throughout this book and was rooting for him all the way through.

Odd premise gives a great end result.

I've had such a great time listening to this. I didn't want it to end. It came as a suggestion on a list of strange book Synopsis. This quickly became one of my favorites. Can't wait to listen to the sequel.

Moving apocalypse story brought to life

The narrator really does justice the warmth, humour and horror of this wonderful story and brings life to Ben, who has become one of my favourite characters.

I will be telling EVERYONE about this book! A perspective we’ve not yet seen and done so perfectly.

The Will to Survive

First I want to say that I am sorry, I discovered while listening to the audible, that I already had a copy of this book on my kindle bought years ago through free deals on amazon and I kind of let it slip, you know some treasures you’re only meant to find when they are supposed to help you in any way… let me explain, to be really honest I have always been overweight, not like Ben, but the stories going back to his past and then to his present made me relate with him, shutter with fright and cry with what was happening to him, and in the end, feel motivation with the courage he felt all through the book. We don’t need super heroes, we need people that we can relate to!…

I did like the person reading the audiobook, Chris Devon, did a terrific job, reading Ben story and bringing it to life.

I can understand the sadness Ben felt all through his younger years, and how food was a cover up for all the disappointment on his life… All he lost, or because he wasn’t brave enough, or because it was meant that way, even in the end a sneaky message got its way to find him and get hope in his heart, yeah mums are amazing, even when they aren't around any more…

I wont spoil the story, but lets just face it, most of us in Ben’s shoes, we would give up much more easily, hey something unknown happened, people are like zombies, that keep inanimate until they notice you and then they get really violent towards you and try their best to “smash” your skull in, while they belittle you with their words, its like mean zombies… instead of wanting to eat your brain, this zombies want to make you cry and kill you… we got some revelations about Ben near the end… actually it if was me in his shoes, I couldn’t face the music…

If you like lone survivor kind of apocalypse books, read this one, Ben is not your usual hero, and he faces many changes and to be honest his outside is the one people with notice the most, but is only a small hiccup on his total change towards life and wanting to live.

unique perspective on a zombie apocalypse

this unique perspective on the zombie apocalypse makes this book a must-read. however, there's only so much you can say about one man (and his dog) in one room for 6 months it was a long introspective monologue with flashbacks that I usually find extremely boring and tedious but the unique perspective kept me interested however i but I felt it was very restrained and was lacking in some kind of big finish but was an enjoyable read but i probably wont re read it

It’s only Feb - but I know that this will be my book of the year. Superb ending, superb story telling, superb - everything. I can’t put it into words and I’m an English teacher!
