A novel about the human heart
Would you listen to The Trick to Time again? Why?
This is certainly one to enjoy again. Fiona Shaw's reading of this fascinating story is superb: acutely moving and deeply sensitive to all the nuances of the characters she portrays so strongly. It has been an absolute joy to be engrossed by. It's a rich, detailed story, funny as well as profound, and will keep you company long after you've finished listening.

Such a well thought out tale of love
I loved this book and now going to buy it for others. I was too captivated from the beginning and felt there with the main character. Love the writing and the narration is superb!

superb story, crafted on so many different levels
this is a beautifully written book, it is searing in parts due to to the circumstances and some of the tragedy but it is also utterly magical and the reading was one hundred per cent brilliant

Heartbreaking and beautiful.
Mona’s story is told so gently, so carefully and with such painful grace. I moved through her life with her, growing to love this complex, generous woman. I will truly miss this beautiful book. Kit de Waal is a masterful storyteller and I can’t wait for her next novel.

The Most Painful Joy I have Read In A While
Incredible story and narration. As a nurse who trained in the 1970'6 I had experienced what happened in the novel from the perspective of a student nurse and had acted in the same way as the student nurse depicted in this novel (much to the annoyance of my superiors). I am still practicing as a nurse and listening to this book made me think how much my ability to defy the authority of a senior helped a mother to spend time with her child who had died. What an incredible novel sensitive to grief on so many levels though engaging, interesting and very perfect. Made me weep

A five-star audiobook
What a heart-achingly good book. Like My Name is Leon, Kit de Waal has written about a really sensitive issue with compassion and integrity. Her style of writing is simple, to the point and incredibly clean, neat and tidy - de Waal is fast becoming one of my favourite writers. The detail in this book is so sad yet there’s always a strong suggestion of hope. Simply beautiful narration by Fiona Shaw.

empathy humour twists
Kit de Waal writes with such clarity, subtlety, warmth and wit, moving with ease and dexterity between times and places and emotions while holding the story together wonderfully. One of those books whose characters linger on. I miss them!
