The first book in Laurens's Black Cobra Quartet begins slowly, and Simon Prebble's leisurely delivery underscores the pacing. Derek "Del" Delborough, a recently retired colonel, travels home from India on an important secret mission. Upon arriving in Southampton, he finds that he's been charged with escorting Miss Deliah Duncannon, who has spent eight years in Jamaica, home to her family. As the story progresses, Prebble begins to build the pace, creating tension through the action and heightening anticipation in the scenes of passion between the two main characters. Fans of Laurens will recognize many familiar characters, including the Cynster cousins and members of the Bastion Club.

Brilliant
Loved every second of it. The plot and the story was brilliant. Couldn't stop listening. Couldn't wait to get back to it whenever I did have to stop.
i loved that all the heros and heroines of the previous books were involved in the story and the investigation, it was great having them ask back on the scene again.
I listened to the Bastion club after the Cynster series and now I started this series. But The Bastion Club series should be listened to/ read before the Cynster series and this series should be listened to after the 7th book of the the Cynster series.
A couple of the Bastion club stories were a bit dragging. But I loved the Cynster series and now this Black Cobra series started off with a bang.
The narrator Simon Prebble as always was brilliant. What a difference a narrator makes to the story. Simon Prebble has become one of my favourite narrators since I've been listening to Stephanie Laurens books. I hadn't known about him before.

Good storyline wasted on sex
I like the plot but find the sex scenes boring, repetitive and totally unnecessary.
