The story: On a misty cemetery world, three strangers are drawn together through mysterious circumstances. Each of them has a tale to tell of a narrow escape from death. Amid the toll of funerary bells and the creep and click of mortuary-servitors, the truth is confessed. But whose story can be trusted? Whose recollection is warped, even unto themselves?

For these are strange stories of the uncanny, the irrational and the spine-chillingly frightening, where horrors abound and the dark depths of the human psyche is unearthed.

the premise sets up in chaucerian/hyperion style,
first 2 of the 3 stories are really good, but the story gets let down by the last story and the overall ending.

The first two thirds and the framing story were great. Brilliant stories and performance.

Sadly the third story of this compilation of sorts was atrocious, despite the incredible job the VA did with the material.

Had to force myself through the last third, loved the rest.

an easy listen, some interesting elements, but even to someone who's horror experience is action movies, and dates with a few goth chicks, its wrote in one key place which rather undermines its value as fiction religating it to 40k lore, and is obvious from the outset only the performance makes it better thank reading a wiki page on it

Its almost an audio drama, with each character given a distinct voice, and as a painting companion its adiquate, but the writing lets it down

Bradley & co are Great, but GW needed Barker

I'm surprised Warhammer hasn't tapped the classic horror portmanteau to date, so it's pleasing to see its been done right. Much like Dead of Night or Dr. Terror's House of Horrors, the individual tales are held together by a framing story that will ultimately reveal the connection between them, and of course the reason for them being there.

The stories themselves are extremely good: predictable to be sure but a true pleasure to saviour. Leading the descent into madness is Doug Bradley, who brings the story of a Commissar struggling to do his duty to vivid and unforgettable life. Its a fascinating introduction to a new and rich seam of 40K and I'm excited to see where this will head. For those who are dreading the coming end of the Heresy series, here's hoping the Black Library will continue to develop this series for years to come.

horror cliché is unavoidable sadly, but it was good stories, particularly enjoyed Valemar adventures in insanity. Despite very obvious ending, I enjoyed fully, the ending for damned and Sinners is the same.

My first real look at the new Warhammer horror books and I have I say I was very happy.
Seeing “normal” people dealing with the things that go on in this universe was very interesting.
I’m excited to see what comes next

If i was reviewing this as simply short stories then I'd say they we're decent enough 40k stories, but with the exception of the 2nd story, the horror aspect was a little lacking for me. That said, Doug Bradley brilliantly narrated the first story and the 2nd story had a decent horror feel to it. Overall, not a bad listen, but one that i could havr missed.
