About this listen

What did she see?

It's been 10 long months since Anna Fox last left her home. Ten months during which she has haunted the rooms of her old New York house like a ghost, lost in her memories, too terrified to step outside.

Anna's lifeline to the real world is her window, where she sits day after day, watching her neighbours. When the Russells move in, Anna is instantly drawn to them. A picture-perfect family of three, they are an echo of the life that was once hers.

But one evening, a frenzied scream rips across the silence, and Anna witnesses something no one was supposed to see. Now she must do everything she can to uncover the truth about what really happened. But even if she does, will anyone believe her? And can she even trust herself?

It kept me listening and I wanted to find out what happened, but it is definitely a slow burner. The main character is incredibly annoying as well, but you're rooting for her all the way through (despite wanting to reach into the book and say, "what the hell are you doing?! Get it together!"). Overall, a good listen and many twists and turns.

Slow Burner

The narration was amazing, but I was just so underwhelmed by the story. I think I'm forever chasing the high of Gone Girl

Brilliant narration for an okay story

If you are planning on giving up drinking I don’t recommend this audio.
Although definitely drawn out I think it was necessary and enhanced the story.
Narration was superb. Even though you might suspect you know the twist coming it holds plenty of surprises

The story is drawn out but ......

Makes you question whats really happening and whats imagined. Totally enthralling and i actually learnt a lot about agoraphobia too!

Gripping!

narration was dreary and I pretty much guessed the plot, it was very predictable and ultimately forgettable.

predictable story, irritating narrator

Upon reading it for the second time, I was still gripped by the suspenseful parts, cried at the sad parts, and thoroughly enjoyed it again.

Definitely one worth reading more than once

The narrator is something else. Funny you don’t see talent like her on the big screen. Amazing. Simply amazing. And the book too.

What narration

Had high expectations for this book but have to say it was a bit disappointing. The story had a good start and finish, but everything in the middle felt dragged out and some details were unnecessary for the story. Overall it was okay.

Too long for one chapter of a twist

Like other reviewers it took me a while adjust to the style of this novel but when I understood that the high level of detail added to our understanding of the main character, I began to really enjoy this psychological thriller. The stream of consciousness style may be tedious to some but I found it built the tension and the clever use of language made descriptions vivid. I have not finished it but am enjoying speculating about the surprise ending. Few books have intrigued me as this does and the narration does it justice.

A gripping listen
