About this listen

*Winner of the Irish Popular Fiction Book of the Year*

A thoughtful, captivating and ultimately uplifting novel from this uniquely talented author

Jasmine loves two things: her sister and her work. And when her work is taken away she has no idea who she is.

Matt loves two things: his family and the booze. Without them, he hits rock bottom.

One New Year’s Eve, two people’s paths collide. Both have time on their hands; both are at a crossroads. But as the year unfolds, through moonlit nights and suburban days, an unlikely friendship slowly starts to blossom.

Sometimes you have to stop still in order to move on…

Original and poignant, The Year I Met You will make you laugh, cry and celebrate life.

Slow to start however turns into a great read

The beginning of the story is hit and miss. Parts were repetitive however if you stick with it, it starts to develop along the way. I found it inspiring at the end as it takes you through the development of growth. Overall excellent performance, however story was hard at times to want to listen to.

Beautifully written and narrated

The story builds the main character beautifully, from who she was at the start, to who she becomes. All the characters have important parts to play and there meaning in her life is gradually revealed. I loved it from start to finish!

A different kind of relationship story

What made the experience of listening to The Year I Met You the most enjoyable?

It was surprising. There were turns to the story I didn't expect and that kept me returning to the book as often as I could! I didn't foresee the way it would go from the title.

I also really enjoyed the narrator's Irish lilt

Have you listened to any of Remie Purtill-Clarke’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No I haven't heard Remie read before but would look out for her narration in other books.

Any additional comments?

Not a love story but a "good friend" story between a man and a woman whose relationship changes and improves over one year.

As expected

As always a good book from Cecelia Ahern. Easy to follow and hard to put down. Nice but predictable romantic story

Not as good as newer

Newer books much better, quite long and dreary with too much description of unimportant things
