About this listen

The 16th book in the Tom Thorne series, from best-selling author Mark Billingham.

She says she's an ordinary mother.

He knows a liar when he sees one.

Sarah thinks of herself as a normal single mum. It's what she wants others to think of her. But the truth is, she needs something new, something thrilling.

Meanwhile, DI Tom Thorne is investigating a woman's suicide, convinced she was driven to do it by a man who preys on vulnerable women.

A man who is about to change Sarah's life.

From number one, five-million-copy bestseller Mark Billingham comes a breathless new thriller starring Thorne and Tanner that readers will devour.

so so

l got the poison so much faster than anyone else. even worked out how the killer stored it. Maybe we were too well schooled in the art of what you can and can't eat, being the kind of children who took living on nuts and roots and berries as ideal ingredients for pottages.
But. Same old boring cop book. Are the writers forced by the publishers, or just lazy. For Christ's sake stop man! This is just another he died, she died, he survived, she got beheaded - oops, slipping around a bit there, but they're the same. Thorne is just a boring middle aged man with less general all round knowlege than - well, than he needs, and absolutely no charm whatsoever. won't be buying another one

Don't give up the day job Mr Billingham.

You're writing deserves a more accomplished reader. The plot is strong and the relationship between the 3 main characters is as entertsining as ever.

A cleverly crafted story....

well, I didn't see that coming. a very clever twist to a typical con story. I was gripped from start to finish. it was also well narrated. I've read nearly all of MB's books, and this was definitely a good one!

A Tour de Force

The best yet. Tingling, brilliant. I'm still in slight shock at the sheer evil of the protagonist.

Absolutely Stunning

Mark Billingham is undoubtedly a master storyteller and in his own words has a twisted imagination. This latest Tom Thorne book is a testament to his skill of weaving an unputtdownable story like no other. I loved this book with it’s unexpected twists and turns, the only downside is having to wait a year for the next one.
