About this listen
Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig.
It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right?
I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job?
It turns out this place isn't a bar. It's a guild. And the three cocky guys I drenched with a margarita during my trial? Yeah, they were mages. Either I'm exactly the kind of takes-no-sh-t bartender this guild needs, or there's a good reason no one else wants to work here.
So what's a broke girl to do? Take the job, of course - with a pay raise.
Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Demonized, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen.

This was my first ever Annette Marie Book. I'd somehow never heard of the author prior to this but the synopsis looked good so I took a cgace and gave it a go. I'm so freaking glad that I did! I actually listened to this audiobook in May and by April I had purchased and (listened to), not only every available book in the series, but every book Annette Marie has ever written.
That’s how good this book was.
OK, let’s get to the actual book review now that I have finished telling you, apparently, my entire life story. It’s written in first person narrative so you feel intimately connected with Tori straight away. The narrator does a fantastic job and you can tell each characters voice from another easily. It’s easy listening and damn fun. The humour is sarcastic, witty and playful and you quickly fall in love with the characters; they leave an imprint on your soul. Seriously.
This book is the first in the Guild Codex: Spellbound series. It follows Tori, a sassy, flawed but badass individual, as she attempts to navigate a hidden world of magic with the help of three handsome strangers who have secrets of their own. A genuinely enjoyable book to listen to.
Bloody Brilliant

Tori is hilarious. I love her grumpiness and her stubbornness. Her character shines through in her every decision.
Actually, all of the characters stand out wonderfully. They're so individual and interesting and dynamic.
The story itself is fun, and interesting. I spent a lot of my time in heart-pounding tension or grinning ear to ear.
I would absolutely recommend this book to fans of urban fantasy, especially hidden magical worlds.
