About this listen

A long-awaited Lord Peter Wimsey novel, telling the story of his first case - and his last....

Jill Paton Walsh triumphantly completes Dorothy L. Sayers last unfinished detective novel, featuring Lord Peter Wimsey and his new wife, Harriet Vane.

It is 1936, and Lord Peter Wimsey has returned from his honeymoon to set up home with his cherished new wife, the novelist Harriet Vane.

As they become part of fashionable London society, they encounter the glamorous socialite Rosamund Harwell and her wealthy impresario husband, Laurence. Unlike the Wimseys they are not in love - and all too soon, one of them is dead. A murder case that only Lord Peter Wimsey can solve.

Thrones,Dominations

Jill Paton Walsh has captured the style of Dorothy Sayers writing so well it is difficult to tell who has written the book style is dated but still a good read

A great legacy - repurposed beautifully

Jill Paton Walsh has taken the essence of DLS and created a great start of Peter and Harriet’s life together. Tragic that there are only 4 books in this series, maybe another writer will get permission from the DLS estate to continue?

And having the last TV and radio Lord Peter - Ian Carmichael - read it - is phenomenal. What a loss.

Ian Carmichael really did justice to the story.

Wonderful, wonderful listen

I enjoyed this audiobook hugely. True to Dorothy L Sayers' characters and wonderfully read by the inimitable Ian Carmichael. The story never lost pace and the plot was good. I will listen to this again and again and would thoroughly recommend it, if, like me, you are an Ian Carmichael fan. I would have given it 10 stars if I could.

Wimsey behind the scenes

Though not 100% Dorothy L Sayers, nevertheless a very good recreation of the Wimsey detective novels plus also background to his life, character and marriage to Harriet Vane. Curiously, Ian Carmichael does not adapt his voice much from one chatter to another. Otherwise, beautifully read, and so much better than some of the other dreadful readings of the Sayers books on Audible. Such a shame.

amazing. was just right!!!

Jill P Walsh has found the heart and ethos of the story brilliantly! i love the details of peter and Harriets new life together and all the little things about it that matter so much! the extracts from the Duchess' , peters mother are brilliantly witty and Helen her usual snobbery, blinkered self. The murder was a good story too. clever! loved it! My hat off to Jill!!

Thrones, Dominations

This is a great book finished without notice of change of Auther. Read with great feeling by Ian Carmichael.

what a joy to rediscover old friends. beautifully written and as always the magic voice of Ian Carmichael. DLS would I'm sure be delighted with how cleverly and with what skill her stories are reborn.
