This is the first of Douglas Skelton’s books that I have listened to. Set on the fictional island of Stoirm on the west coast of Scotland, I was immediately drawn into the book from the beautifully written prologue. It set the scene for the rest of the book, where the wild and rugged landscape took centre stage.
The characters were beautifully drawn , although at times I became confused with the two main male characters Donnie and Roddie, as their names were so similar!
I liked that the current story was interspersed with snippets from 15 years ago, told by different players in the drama. I liked the main character, Rebecca, a journalist, but I loved her male wing men Chaz and Alan even more.
The narrator was excellent, coping with the Scots dialect and the Yorkshire accent brilliantly.
The story is quite dark, and many of the characters are deeply unpleasant, but despite that Thunder Bay is a compelling read.
I hope that more of Douglas Skelton’s work becomes available on audible.

This is a really good story, generally well written with good characters whether good or bad in their ways, my only complaint really is that the 'Big Reveal' at the end was a bit too complicated and very slow!

I am not sure, but I think that this is a debut novel, I will keep my eyes open for this author again.

This is my first book by this Author...and I was definitely not disappointed! Wonderfully performed by Sarah Barron...an excellent pairing.

Stopped llistening to this at the beginning of chapter 4, too touchy-feely, too sentimental, and too journalistic for me, not enough plotline, not enough detective work, the characters described in a weary, tiresome way stripping them of sympathy and leaving me with the impression of a depressed bordering on cynical former journalist now turned author, who uses his experience from a journalistic career to try to make himself a career as a crime writer. Harsh words, I know, but I am sorely disappointed, had hoped for something cosy taking place on a windswept Scottish island with lots of heartwarming folklore and not a story about a sensation hungry journalist who laments the way of quality journalism.
Did not care much for the narrator either, too empathic with the characters, stressing the sentimentality even further.
