About this listen
When reporter Rebecca Connolly is told of Roddie Drummond's return to the island of Stoirm she senses a story. Fifteen years before he was charged with the murder of his lover, Mhairi. When he was found Not Proven, Roddie left the island. Now he has returned for his mother's funeral - and it will spark an explosion of violence.
Rebecca joins forces with local photographer Chaz Wymark to dig into the secrets surrounding Mhairi's death, and her mysterious last words of Thunder Bay, where, according to local lore, the souls of the dead set off into the afterlife. When another murder takes place, she is ideally placed to uncover the truth about what happened that night 15 years before.
©2019 Douglas Skelton (P)2019 Isis Publishing LtdThe characters were beautifully drawn , although at times I became confused with the two main male characters Donnie and Roddie, as their names were so similar!
I liked that the current story was interspersed with snippets from 15 years ago, told by different players in the drama. I liked the main character, Rebecca, a journalist, but I loved her male wing men Chaz and Alan even more.
The narrator was excellent, coping with the Scots dialect and the Yorkshire accent brilliantly.
The story is quite dark, and many of the characters are deeply unpleasant, but despite that Thunder Bay is a compelling read.
I hope that more of Douglas Skelton’s work becomes available on audible.
Charismatic,evocative crime thriller.

EXCELLENT STORY

Did not care much for the narrator either, too empathic with the characters, stressing the sentimentality even further.
Too many feelings displayed, not enough plotline
