the ending was too sudden and with no prior warning. I expected more twists and turns, as though the writer hadn't really thought how to end it

Intensely detailed, well narrated intricate tale, typical for this author, so enjoyable for those who enjoy him. After 18 of his novels am familiar with his writing style and quirks. If you enjoy Le Carre you will enjoy this book. Written in 2006 it includes now "forgotten" tech of the time also cheque books and bank cards lol. It's hard to find a plot loophole in any of the books that irked me enough causing me to stop. The complexity means you must engage noodle to keep up.

The MCs are well defined. Good drama and action, some of which will keep you glued open mouthed for what will be served up next.

After reading the other reviews, I can see how the lack of "American" accents is odd, but so enjoyed the narrator it didn't cause me any issues. GOOD BOOK, V ENJOYABLE

Boring. And the narrator is awful. He doesn’t do accents. It’s all RP English. Until suddenly there’s an American accent. The whole book is based in the US. Shockingly bad. Gave up half way. Sad because I enjoyed Charlie Muffin immensely.
