About this listen
One day, six towers appear on Earth. Each one stands hundreds of stories tall, and are invulnerable to all attacks. At the base of each tower is a portal, welcoming in all who dare enter it. All sorts of magical monsters can be found inside the towers. Even treasure, magic, and superhuman strength can be acquired.
The problem is that the towers aren't a friendly place. Even worse, the towers sometimes release waves of monsters to attack Earth. In the year 2083, there are only a hundred survivors. In one last attempt, they challenge the final floor without regard for their lives. By some miracle, they manage to beat the floor at the cost of their lives, leaving only one survivor. As a reward for clearing the tower, he is granted one wish. He decides to go back in time to before the towers arrived. His goal is simple: prevent humanity from being wiped out.

Can the apocalypse be prevented
The premise for this book is an interesting one if handled properly, the lone survivor of an apocalyptic event is sent back to an earlier point in his life and attempts to use his knowledge of events to prevent that disaster from happening again, but as he changes things, will his knowledge eventually become invalidated and if so will he still be able to succeed with his task.
With the main character, the author treads a fine line, giving him some skills and advantages that could easily end up being overpowered, but on the whole manages to keep things moving along nicely with the benefits serving to accelerate the main character's progression towards his goal rather than sidestepping vast swathes of it and the new dynamics with people he previously knew in different contexts also helps to make the story work well.
The author's performance works well with this book, a somewhat understated style, while still providing a suitable range of tones for the varied cast.
Overall, a very strong start to this series with the only main drawback being that you want to keep listening to more of it.

Pleasantly surprised.
I really enjoyed this book, I'm a little confused though, it's litrpg but not. There is character building but still being on earth, though in a tower. The main character has been sent back in time but not to where he expected, great concept and delivered perfectly.
The narration is superb.
Overall 10 out of 10.
can't wait to get the next instalment.

A genuinely epic story.
It's rare for me to use the word epic to describe anything as I often feel it's over used, so my use of it is intentional when describing the book.
The setup for the narration immediately sets the stakes of the story. Not just in an abstract form but in a solid and definite manner few stories really reach. From there a time limit is set providing a sense of urgency (But not an overly short time limit) that really helps pull the narrative forwards. All these factors naturally lend to a compelling read but where this story truly excels is the world building and characters.
The author has evidently put a substantial amount of time planning this series and the nature of the tower. Characters are engaging enough with different avenues they may develop, though nothing rings out as exceptional about them. That said the plot takes turns that keeps one looking forward to the next page. An easy 5*
To talk about storytelling I have to describe my ranking system.
2* The performance is fine/not great. It may cause a struggle to get through the story or there may be slight aspects which cause this struggle on what would otherwise be a good narration. The performance hampers the reading.
3* The narrator is good. They record well and narrate the story but nothing else. They don't add much to the story but they do a solid job. 3* often lends to single voice narrators and are still worth listening to.
4*. The narrator is not only good, but adds to the story. A 4* performance can make an average story compelling, as they lead the listener with pacing. They likely engage multiple voices enabling ease in identifying character and narration shifts.
5* Is 4* but with something ringing out as exceptional. Maybe the narrators voice and style happens to synergise with the book. Full cast and books with immersive sound effects which drag you into the story may hit 5*.
Steve's narration pulls you into the story, his pacing matches that of the events that are transpiring but are still clear and easy to understand. His voice shifts not just between characters, but between narration of story and stats. The 5th star was awarded as Steve's voice synergises with this tale so well. Particularly in the first chapter, his narration really hammers home the impact as to what has occurred and how the world has been effected. This synergy leads to a tremendously compelling story.

I like it.
Good book. Bal's pronouciation was a bit weird but not a deal breaker. the story is pretty good but I'm still sad that someone had to die. They didn't have to; surely the protagonist could have simply gone with them and kept watch.
Only tough part is that it's a bit short. it's more of an and not much happens during the book. honestly I wish it had more defined arcs with start, middle and climax. but the story is really enjoyable never the less.

Part one in a series
Which is fine if you get the next one straight afterwards....But not so great if you get into it thinking it’s a stand alone book.
It starts of very strong and I was really impressed, at the end of the book I was less impressed, mainly because I wanted to the story to be completed in this book and it very much isn’t.
Maybe at some point will get the next but not rushing straight away.

Simply excellent
You know that you love a book when you finish it and immediately go and look for the next one. I did that with this book! It's different in all the right ways. I don;t think I've ever read a book quite like this. The characters are great. Our hero is incredibly likable because he's believable. He's nice and he likes people, he wants to save the world. He also wants to live through it and come out rich and famous. I think if we are honest we can relate to that! He also has an honest desire to do the right thing. The pace of the story is great. The actions is cool and I love the world that the author has crafted. I think it is excellently crafted as well!
Very good. Stop reading the review and jump into the book!
