About this listen

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Wars of the Roses: Trinity, the second instalment in Conn Iggulden's thrilling Wars of the Roses trilogy.

1454: King Henry VI has remained all but exiled in Windsor Castle, struck down by his illness for over a year, his eyes vacant, his mind a blank. His fiercely loyal wife and Queen, Margaret of Anjou, safeguards her husband's interests, hoping that her son Edward will one day know the love of his father.

Richard Duke of York, Protector of the Realm, extends his influence throughout the kingdom with each month that Henry slumbers. The Earls of Salisbury and Warwick make up a formidable trinity with Richard, and together they seek to break the support of those who would raise their colours in the name of Henry and his Queen. But when the King unexpectedly recovers his senses and returns to London to reclaim his throne, the balance of power is once again thrown into turmoil.

The clash of the Houses of Lancaster and York will surely mean a war to tear England apart . . .

If you could sum up Wars of the Roses: Trinity in three words, what would they be?

Entertaining, Enjoyable, Action

What did you like best about this story?

I have read the other books and I have enjoyed them all but it is the first one as an audiobook and it is more interesting this way. The story is well know but the author makes it is own and therefore I've not been bored one minute

What does Roy McMillan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Excellent choice of narrator for this sort of story, he does a great job with the different characters

Excellent book and narration

conn iggulden is as good as or better than bernard cornwell. where Mr Cornwell's detailed descriptions cannot be faulted, Mr iggulden tells a much better story. and Roy McMillan brings the characters to life.

better than book 1. simply excellent.

I was really excited for this book and have already purchased the next two however I felt that after stormbird this was a little of a let down the character development was not as good and the established characters that you had begin to love and loathe in the first book were not really expanded on.

a minor point which I found annoying was the gap between the last word of the chapter and the naming of the following chapter it should of been held for an extra 1/2 a second to stop the immediate run in.

i hope the next books prove me wrong but at the moment this series is not looking as good as the Genghis or emperor series which in my opinion are super.

Good but not as good

I gave the 1st book in this amazing series a 5 star rating as well.
If I was able to give a higher rating for Trinity, I would do so.
Conn Iggulden is a true master in this field, and Roy McMillan is one of the finest narrators in the business.
Needless to say I am starting Blood Line, the 3rd book in the series with immediate effect.

Amazing series.

I am very interested in the Wars of the Roses and know the historical facts behind it well. Conn Iggulden has turned these facts into a fantastic work of fiction. His characters are very well drawn and the historical figures in the book are humanised. Iggulden doesn't take sides and paints rounded characters, with both their less desirable traits and their softer sides exposed.

I have enjoyed the first two books of the series very much and can't wait for the next!

Fleshing out the bones of history

I am really enjoying this series having first read of all Shardlake then Giordano Bruno's stories. They are superbly read and the historical notes really fill out the historical periods wonderfully. This book did have a few technical glitches that were a bit annoying - bits apparently missing and some random repeats, which was a shame. But still brilliantly enjoyable!

Brilliant - but some technical glitches

Richard of York is truly a fascinating historical figure, and in this second book of the series Conn Iggulden does him justice. His pride and honour, sense of duty and love of family, ruthless ambition and conflicting desire to uphold justice and spare the innocent Henry make for a compelling and complex character, one that you can easily fall in love with and rooth for, even when you know that tragedy is not far off. In fact, all of the Yorkists are great - the old fox Salisbury, the towering March who is just coming into his own, and Warwick. Oh, Warwick, how awesome are thee. Not yet the Kingmaker, but already oozing charisma and gravitas. The book ends with the fall of the old guard, but now their sons are unleashed. Cry Warwick, cry York...... and cry Cade! Margaret and Derry Brewer are still excellent characters and plenty likeable in their own right, but the Lancastrians have a lot to answer for, and I hope that there are enough good Kentish men to make them pay.

Glory to the White Rose

Fantastic historical novel showing the diplomacy and brutality of the time and wonderfully narrated- the historical notes explain any slight inaccuracies in historical fact - recommended

Fantastic
