Another totally satisfying mystery

Interesting , gripping follow on with previous string characters taking us further into the lives of people with relatable human traits.
Exciting take with no way for me to guess fully what was going on through the unfolding tale, something that I all to often find myself able to do in mystery stories. Really enjoyed this and would recommend to any mystery thriller fans. For me the setting in Australia is a welcome change to US and UK.

My new favourite author!!

Just loving these books set in Oz!! So well written, a gripping plot & such a variety of interesting characters!! There is murder, plot & intrigue, but the murders are not the main focus, more a sign of a greater conspiracy that the main character, a journalist, has accidentally been caught up in. I also love that they’re not gruesome or psychological, instead each book cleverly unravels a complex plot, enhanced by being set in interesting locations and filled with fascinating characters that aren’t just simply good, bad or an obvious plot device!

Can’t recommend them more highly... gripping stories &, thankfully, an excellent narrator too!! Start with Scrublands (Book 1), if you can, then Silver (Book2). They are each a story in their own right, each fabulous, but to fully understand what’s going on you’ll want the backstory. Enjoy... and, Chris, keep writing, I can’t wait for more!!

A gripping story set in Sydney

This is a third novel in the Martin&Mandy series this time set in the somewhat depressing Sydney and focused on the ghosts from Mandy’s past city life. It’s mostly about the corrupt establishment and their links with the police and press. As usual in Hammer’s novels there are numerous shady characters, tangled story lines which only get explained in the end. This book is less about Martin who seems to be a victim of circumstances and the plots of other people, is not as strongly portrayed or interesting as in Scrublands or Silver. Mandy is also a bit superficial although the story is spun fundamentally based on people and events from her past. A good read but lacked slightly the suspense and dynamics of the previous novels. The fact that the narrators change in every novel isn’t great, Rupert Degas ( Scrublands) was by far the best.

Disappointing sequel

After two good books this one is terrible. Too many confusing characters, far fetched conspiracy theories, zero engagement.
