Summary
Party planner Colin Brightman doesn’t drink or dance, preferring to go to bed early with his spreadsheets and lists. All he wants is to forget the singles weekend his friends sent him on, but he’s stuck with a suitcase filled with condoms and skimpy Speedos that don’t belong to him.
He doesn’t expect his luggage thief to be ex-baseball superstar Walker “Walk-Off” Scanlon. Or that Walker has hired his firm to put on a charity event at his bar. Colin can’t deny the mixed emotions the annoyingly flirty man stirs in him, but he refuses to fall for someone who racks up lovers as easily as he once hit home runs.
No matter how much he might want to.
Walker Scanlon likes his men easygoing with no complications. He’s had enough of those in his life. So why is he drawn to tense and straitlaced Colin and his frosty scowl? When even his corny one-liners and jokes don’t get him a smile? Because the sparks between them are undeniable. And that unexpected kiss? Amazin’.
Now if only Colin would stop running away.
When Colin and Walker come face to face with past hurts and betrayals, they’ll need to trust themselves and each other to learn that heartbreak and love don’t go hand in hand. It’s the bottom of the ninth, and if they swing for the stars, they just might hit the grand slam of a lifetime.
Unexpected is a low-angst, high-heat romance between a corny joke-telling ex-baseball player who doesn't believe in striking out on or off the field and a divorced, tea-drinking homebody who isn't willing to get played...again.

Well worth the investment
Loved the story from start to finish. It had a nice balance and I would/will listen to it again. Matt Haynes was excellent in his narration. I have not listened to him before but I will seek out other books narrated by him.

A heartwarming story and a terrific narration
I was looking forward to this audiobook because I love the writing style and characters of Felice's Stevens stories.
Once again, I was not disappointed. I loved this slow burn story. What I also really like is the age of Felice Stevens protagonist.
After a weekend at a resort, Colin is sitting with a stranger's suitcases. This one turns out to be Walker, a former baseball star. When the two meet, there is a certain attraction that cannot be denied.
I listened through the audiobook in just two days because I loved Colin and Walker's story. The author knows how to captivate the listener. The story was plotted in an entertaining and varied way and the relationship of the two with all the ups and downs had an interesting development. The characters are deeply created and I lost my heart to Colin and Walker. Both are very likeable and both carry a baggage from their past.
I was looking forward to Matt Haynes and this was the first time hearing him as a narrator. I think he did a brilliant job bringing the characters to life. He has a pleasant voice, always hit the right note and he skillfully conveyed the emotions.
Highly recommended!

Beautiful story, wonderful characters.
Even when they are relatively low-angst, Felice Stevens’ stories are always full of heart, and with wonderful, well-rounded characters.
Colin and Walker are just that, both of them hurt in the past, both of them keeping themselves locked away from future hurts. Colin has thrown himself in his work and refuses to let anyone get close to him. Walker wears his mask as -life-of-the-party man, but he, too, never gets close to anyone.
A meet-cute and an event to plan later, they find themselves already in love, despite self-doubts, reticence and a whole lot of fear!
A wonderfully-written story, very sweet with a bit of bitter, and heart-warmingly full of hope!

Unexpected
I love listening Unexpected, such a wonderful story!!! Party planner Colin Brightman, just wants to forget the weekend his friends plan for him, he is stuck in a resort watching a hot guy in skimpy Speedos have fun with everyone but he just wants to go home but now that he is back he is stuck with a suitcase filled with condoms that don’t belong to him. That bag belongs to ex-baseball superstar and playboy Walker “Walk-Off” Scanlon and of course his new client, Colin is annoyed with him because he is a flirt and refused to be another notch on his bedpost.
Walker Scanlon doesn’t know why He is drawn to Colin, he is grumpy and always with a scowl on his face, but there’s something about him that makes Walker impossible to stay away, there a spark between them and he loves a challenge. He just have to make Colin stop to run for him.
This two have a very difficult past, both have been hurt and they are afraid to trust, Colin and Walker have to face the past and learn that sometimes they just have to trus themselves and fall, I love everything abort this book!
Matt Hayes did an amazing job narrating this book, I love how he sounds and Colin and Walker voices were just amazing! I have a good laugh and of course they make me cry with them, the chemistry is amazing and I love their HEA!!! This is definitely a must read! Enjoy!

Good narration for an enjoyable story
A story of 2 men, Colin, a gruff, prickly man, and Walker, a seemingly happy-go-lucky ex-sportsman who is hiding major hurts. Walker sees a glimpse of a man he wants to get to know, but Colin doesn't make it easy. Both men have issues, especially about trust, but they slowly, very slowly start to trust in their feelings towards each other. They work hard to get their solid HEA. Nice host of characters, love the way cultures/heritages are woven into the story.
Matt Haynes has a pleasant tone and cadence. Really enjoyed listening to the narration, easy to tell all the characters and feel the emotions, especially the 2 MCs. Great way to enjoy the story!

brilliant
wow absolutely loved it
Colin has had so much hurt in his life he just works. The only friends he has are his work partners. When they decide to send Colin on a weekend vacation he was not happy, as it was for single gay men.
Arriving back at the airport someone takes his luggage by mistake.
Walker Scanlon, an ex baseball player, went on the weekend retreat for a break and was the one who took Colin's luggage.
When they finally meet Walker is interested in Colin but Colin is so cold and prickly.
As Colin's firm is sorting out Walker's event he has to spend time with him.
Both men have trust issues, but Walker wants to break down Colin and find the man hidden inside.
Both men are what the other needs to heal.
Matt Haynes narration brought the character to life.

Reevaluating life choices
Past emotionally bruising relationships have had opposite effects on Colin and Walker. Colin has become a man who focuses on his job and spends his nights cocooning at home with some hot tea and more work. Walker has become a player who never gets deeply involved in any one man, just has a bit of fun and moves on. When Colin's friends force him on a vacation and these two meet there is some attraction, but also some confusion and annoyance at how the other makes them feel things they thought they had put behind them. Watching them dance around each other all the while moving closer and closer and sharing more and more honestly makes for a great story. I enjoyed the way Matt Haynes' performance captured how these two were initially annoyed by the long-buried feelings the other was bringing out in them and the hope that this time things might be for real.
