About this listen
PI John Craine has come to Hale Island to get away from it all. But within hours he stumbles across the dead body of a young girl on the beach. When the police arrive the body has inexplicably disappeared. Or did Craine imagine it in the first place?
Determined to get at the truth, Craine starts asking questions. But it seems that no one on the island is talking. And all too soon he finds himself tangled up in a deadly network of fear and violence…

Would you listen to Until the Darkness Comes again? Why?
i would listen to this book again as it holds you right from the beginning. you just want to keep listeningDid you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
made me cry especially at the end as it is so human and makes you wish for the next bookAny additional comments?
this is a great writer and narrator. the book is about a private investigator who is a drug addled alchoholic who you just have to identify with even though you wouldnt normally. the book holds you all the way through and i would certainly listen to more by the same author and narratorbrilliant

If you could sum up Until the Darkness Comes in three words, what would they be?
Very slow to begin with but once I got into it I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Yes the author asks the listener to accept some poetic licence, not least how quickly 18 year old Robyn accepts her newly revealed significantly older half brother, along with some seriously clichéd characters.Andrew Wincott’s narration is impeccable and his characterisations bring all the dark “players” to life, to colour the atmospheric scenes of a tired and dull Essex island, painted by the author..
Yes Craine is a flawed character who must have the stamina of an ox to consume all the booze, and drugs that he does but still come out ahead, but hey that’s fiction for you, it would be boring if it was totally lifelike!
A Hint of Scandinavian Noir!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This is the first time I've given up on an audiobook. I didn't want to spend any more time with the drunken junkie private investigator or the rest of the unsavoury lowlifes in this dull book.Andrew Wincott, the narrator, has a beautiful voice but his performance - particularly of the female characters - soon began to grate.
A complete waste of time and money.
A first - and not in a good way
