Summary
After almost sixty years as an actor, William Shatner has become one of the most beloved entertainers in the world. And it seems as if Shatner is everywhere. In Up Till Now, Shatner sits down with listeners and offers the remarkable, full story of his life and explains how he got to be, well, everywhere.
It was the original Star Trek series, and later its films, that made Shatner instantly recognizable, called by name—or at least by Captain Kirk's name—across the globe. But Shatner neither began nor has ended his career with that role. From the very start, he took his skills as an actor and put them to use wherever he could. He straddled the classic world of the theater and the new world of television, whether stepping in for Christopher Plummer in Shakespeare's Henry V or staring at "something on the wing" in a classic episode of The Twilight Zone. And since then, he's gone on to star in numerous successful shows, such as T.J. Hooker, Rescue 911,and Boston Legal.
William Shatner has always been willing to take risks for his art. What other actor would star in history's first—and probably only—all-Esperanto-language film? Who else would share the screen with thousands of tarantulas, release an album called Has Been, or film a racially incendiary film in the Deep South during the height of the civil rights era? And who else would willingly paramotor into a field of waiting fans armed with paintball guns, all waiting for a chance to stun Captain...er, Shatner?
In this touching and very funny autobiography, William Shatner's Up Till Now reveals the man behind these unforgettable moments, and how he's become the worldwide star and experienced actor he is today.
"It is now Bill Shatner's universe—we just live in it."---New York Daily News

Shatner is amazing!
Would you consider the audio edition of Up Till Now to be better than the print version?
Yes, being read by the man himself brings the full emotion of the words to the fore. Shatner really has given part of himself to this writing...very impressed.
What other book might you compare Up Till Now to, and why?
This is my first autobiography, so NA
What does William Shatner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
His emotions for the stories he tells...only the person that lives the life of the story can really tell the story from the heart, that is what you get from this!
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Shatner's life!

Laugh out loud Funny!
William Shatner is everything and more you expect him to be. He is a parody of himself and plays to fans expectations in every way. He is a great story teller as his autobiography plays like a good novel. He tells stories about events in his life, both funny and sad. He pulls at our heart string one moment then tickles your ribs the next. When I finished his book, I instantly went online to see if he had narrated or written any more books. Turns out his has so may check them out!

It left me with tinnitus
Great book but beware one minute he is whispering (turn volume up on a busy street to hear) then talking loudly minutes later (too late to to turn volume back down)

A life worth listening
Most of us will probably know William Shatner as Captain Kirk from Star Trek, and as such think of him as a reasonably limited TV star lucky enough to land an iconic role. This biography comes as a surprise then as it details the journey of a dedicated young actor learning his craft and emerging as a respected theatre performer. The story covers his various TV roles, the significant moments in a fascinating life, and how he related to those around him in all of these situations.
It also shows a man with a brilliant sense of humour who knows how to tell a story. There are even moments of tragedy that he shares with honesty and genuine sorrow.
This is a wonderful biography made all the better by the author reading it himself. Highly recommended.

A great funny look on the life of William Shatner told with a sense of humour
I have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Bill Shatner autobiography.
The reason is he covers his life and his bizarre acting with a sense of humour making me laugh with him throughout his life story. I enjoyed this so much that I went and bought some other books narrated by him.
This is what Kevin Hart book should have been but Kevin missed the point.
Shatner talks about throughout his career to how he became an actor, his early work, Star Trek, his terrible singing career, TJ Hooker, Star Trek Movies, his time as Denny Crane and confrontations with Trekkies.
He covers all the controversies to his fight with George Takei, Leonard Nimoy, his massive ego, his overacting and he does this making light jabs at himself so u will love and enjoy his book.
Having the book read by James T Kirk is great but having it read so well and to realise that this book is aimed at entertaining the listener not just informing the reader is probably the most important lesson that Bill can give to production teams and narrators of other audiobooks.
Shatner is an author not a writer, he authors books so u can enjoy them, he does not write to just inflate his ego so much that the message is lost on his readers.
Also I learnt a lot of life lessons from Bill on the way from his marital strifes (he was terrible at marriage but prob got some good insight into female psychology from counsellors) to the need to being appreciative of whatever work you can get to sustain yourself and not think any project is beneath u.
Although looking back at his career I wish he had been more selective.
U will enjoy this book. Download it and have fun!

Charm wins out
There are more interesting and better written autobiographies but this is not a bad example and the charm, ego and self awareness of Shatner made it an entertaining listen from beginning to end for me.

Like being next to William Shatner having a chat about his life and philosophy.
I love listening to people narrate their own autobiography. It’s like a personal audience with the star. William Shatner is a great narrator: he has warmth, emotion, incite and both humour and seriousness. This isn’t quite a warts and all narrative. More like a lot of warts and most of everything else. I guess with a professional history as long as his (and still going) there is too much to say and perhaps it might be less enjoyable if the book was simply an account of first I did this then I did that then I did something else and so forth.
Instead Mr Shatner reveals lots of interesting, funny and also sad highs and lows in his life, both personal and professional. If you enjoyed his earlier autobiography you will enjoy this too as it fills in later parts of his life. He describes himself as fortunate. When you listen to his early life and his way of life you realise that like many successful people you make your own luck usually by hard work and perseverance. Mr Shatner certainly has a good work ethic and is prepared to do anything for work while his willingness to poke fun at himself makes him very human and tangible to the ordinary reader.
If you liked Captain Kirk or T J Hooker or Denny Crane, then you will love hearing about the man behind the characters who imbued those characters with some of himself to make it so good. Enjoy! It’s a great read.
