About this listen

Book 11 in the Ciaphas Cain Series

Ciaphas Cain is nearing retirement, but of course his fate leads him into a twisted web of deception, corruption, and an unfortunate amount of mortal peril. This time, it’s the Adeptus Mechanicus throwing spanners into his future plans of heroic rest and relaxation.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

The darkly hilarious saga of a reluctant hero continues – packed with all the action, wit, and hijinks you’ve come to expect from Ciaphas and his comrades.

THE STORY

When the flow of desperately needed weapons for the Astra Militarum slows to nothing from a newly founded forge world, there’s only one man able and (un)willing to investigate… Ciaphas Cain, Hero of the Imperium.

With Cain’s desperately sought-after retirement on the line, the Imperium’s most reluctant commissar must navigate insidious assassination attempts against his person, legions of mutinous skitarii, heresy within the upper echelons of the Adeptus Mechanicus itself… and a hidden foe, pulling the strings, with an agenda that could threaten the future of Imperial rule in the Damocles Gulf.

Written by Sandy Mitchell. Narrated by Stephen Perring, Penelope Rawlins, Christopher Tester and Andrew James Spooner. Running time 8 hours and 36 minutes (approx).

A new threat, a potential to a new story thread for Cain and overall one of the best works with our brave commissar at the helm. Performance by the wonderful cast was superb as per usual standard, look forward to listening to it again!

One of the best Cain books

Always love hearing tales about my favourite Commissar. can't believe I'm out of books.

Amazing, good change of pace.

nice to see the necron and the admech being more than background and giving Cain something to do other than run away.

a break from the normal suspects

Another great installment into the series. I love how each book faces a different faction and brings a whole new outlook on the Warhammer universe. This keeps the series gripping and enjoyable.

The performance was spot on for each actor. to the point the series would be the same if any changed.

I highly recommend this book!

another fantastic installment

Another fun and fast paced entry in the Cain saga.
You'd think I would get bored of this formula at some point but no, the combination of the writing, great chemistry of the characters and the superb delivery of the narrators keeps me laughing and coming back to this series without fail!
The only problem is that they aren't long enough and with an audiobook they fly by lol.

Classic Cain continues

This is the best Ciaphas Cain novel for a while, kept me hooked and seem to pass so quickly. They are all entertaining books if not a little bit lighthearted but a great escape from some of the other ultra grim books in The Dark Imperium. This one is really quite funny, especially the banter between Cain and the utterly brilliant Jurgen (the second best character in Warhammer after Fabius Bile). I often call my husband Jurgen and it’s a good thing he doesn’t know why ( he is scruffy and stinky but fiercely loyal😂). The narrators really seemed to be enjoying themselves and Stephen Perring is just perfect in this book. And of course the ultra charming Cain gets the lady in the end- he really is so likeable and the Cain books are a refreshing change from the bolter books (which I love too). Highly recommend!

Ciaphas Cain- the Milk Tray Man of Warhammer 40k does it better

It’s a classic cain novel - very enjoyable - if I’m honest the chief necron is a bit too comical a bad guy - especially when you consider that for all Cain has endured the necrons appear to have rattled him the most. Appears to set up for the next one decently.

Cain does it again

Excellent as always

Can’t wait for the next one. No one makes warhammer relatable like Cain and Sandy Mitchell

Another commissar Cain hit

Another excellent instalment in the cain series, full of the same quirky banter, good action sequences and more evidence he is a lot better than he gives himself credit. Thoroughly enjoyable yet again.

Similar but fresh
