About this listen

‘Had me laughing aloud within its first five pages. Charming, hilarious and heartfelt’ Emily Henry, New York Times bestselling author of Beach Read

Life is good for sixty-year-old teashop owner and amateur sleuth, Vera Wong. Her teashop is bustling, and her son, Tilly, finally has a girlfriend! Still, Vera can’t help but wish for some excitement and adventure. Sometimes all an old lady wants is a murder to solve…

Then Vera comes across a distressed young woman in need of her kindly guidance. The woman is looking for her missing friend Xander. Online, he appeared to have it all: a parade of private jets, fabulous parties with socialites, and a burgeoning career as a social media influencer.

When Xander turns up dead, it seems he isn’t who he claimed to be. The police have no leads, but Vera intends to uncover the truth in the only way that this Chinese mother knows how: by spilling the tea.

I love Vera so much. I maybe enjoyed this even more than the first book which I highly recommend reading first. It's sweet and laugh out loud funny with great characters.

Just an absolute treat!

This book, much like the first one, is full of humour and charm. Jesse Sutanto creates such richly developed characters and creates loads of funny moments. The narration by Eunice Wong is excellent and a big reason I bought the sequel - she really makes the characters come to life (and reads at the perfect pace). Overall, I loved this book almost as much as the first one, just occasionally finding the self-loathing / guilt portions a bit repetitive and too similar to the thoughts had by other characters in the first book. Aside from this, the characters all felt unique, interesting and loveable. I’d definitely recommend the Vera Wong books (and have done so in person already).

I love Vera and her ever-growing family

Love the character of Vera and the wonderful way she improves the life of so many people.
Story was fast moving although distressing in parts but also funny. The ending actually made me cry which is very unusual.

Unusual clever storyline

This latest Vera Wong book is fantastic- and has a bit of everything-it has humour, insight, heart, wisdom, forgiveness, redemption arcs, and it also explores a very challenging and dark side of the world today. The story evolves with a rich plot and the characters are woven together beautifully. It goes deep, with humour and wisdom. I wish Vera was my grandmother too!

Absolutely loved this book!!!

Having enjoyed the debut Vera Wong story, I was delighted to listen to this sequel. Vera gets to know herself better and brings us along for the journey, and we only love her even more. A great plot and better mystery, touching on important topics through the eyes of an (not actually old unless it suits her) Chinese woman who wants to solve murders and have grand babies in equal measure.

Even Better than the 1st book

I wish I had a Vera in my life. She is amazing and her food sounds delicious!
I loved this book and the previous one. The characters are well rounded, all having their own personalities and back stories. I’ve grown to care about them and would love to be in their “circle”.
The narration is great with every character having a well defined voice, no difficulties working out who is speaking.
I hope there’s a third book, and soon, the end of this one certainly gave clues that there would be and may be a bit of what it would be about…. Fingers crossed 😊

Fab-u-lous
