About this listen
Featuring an exclusive postscript read by the author.
Closely modeled on his NATO experience of war gaming future conflicts, War with Russia is a chilling account of where we are heading if we fail to recognise the threat posed by the Russian president.
Written by the recently retired Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe and endorsed by senior military figures, this audiobook shows how war with Russia could erupt, with the bloodiest and most appalling consequences, if the necessary steps are not taken urgently.
President Putin said, 'We have all the reasons to believe that the policy of containment of Russia which was happening in the 18th, 19th and 20th century is still going on....' And 'if you press the spring, it will release at some point. Something you should remember.'
Like any strongman, the Russian president's reputation for strength is everything. Lose momentum, fail to give the people what they want, and he fails. The president has already demonstrated that he has no intention of failing. He has already started a lethal dynamic which, unless checked right now, could see him invade the Baltic States.
Russia's invasion and seizure of Georgia in 2008 was our Rhineland moment. We ignored the warning signs - as we did back in the 1930s - and we made it business as usual.
Crimea in 2014 was the president's Sudetenland moment, and again he got away with it. Since 2014 Russia has invaded Ukraine. The Baltics could be next. Our political leaders assume that nuclear deterrence will save us. General Sir Richard Shirreff shows us why this will not wash.

Maybe in the long term future, not in short term.

Any additional comments?
It was really good up to point where they decide to base their strategy on turning Russia's rockets on Russia... really? Then there is the end, there isn't really one.I did enjoy it.

On the whole, excellent
The true successor to Tom Clancy is born.
The insight of Clancy into the workings of the US military has been mirrored by the work of ex NATO General Shirreff.
Written in a fast paced, amiable way and hindered only by a tendency to over explain, this is an excellent book and I eagerly await the next.

Even more relevant in 2023
This book shows the foresight of our NATO staff compared to the short term monetary concerns of politicians, and how in 2022/23 those chickens have come home to roost.
Well written, well informed, good narration. Let’s hope that things happening in the east of Europe are handle better in the future ( if we have one)

Brilliant story and excellent narration.
Clearly a very knowledgeable and experienced author. I think the military folk will enjoy this but the politicians really should read or listen to it. The story's relevance appears to be highlighted on an almost daily basis in the newspapers.
this would be a very tough story to follow but I'd be keen to read, or listen to, a sequel.

very good war story
I liked the book. Story had good pace, not too slow, not too fast. Yes there are complaina about military budget cuts, but weren't those real until recently? And the ending ia clear enough.
There are fights deacriptions but also politics and cyber warfare so be warned that this is no a book made only of military action.

clumsy delivery
Makings of a great story, i feel sometimes large parts of the plot were brushed over. Other than that well its narrated and quite the warning.
