About this listen

Once, I fell in love with a man who deceived me.

For weeks, he stood by my side, twisting his words into pretty half-truths. He enraptured me with his smooth temptation, leaving no corner of my being untouched. He consumed my mind and my body, then finally claimed my heart for himself. But Caelum’s true identity is terrifying enough to bring me to my knees.

Then, I discovered the truth of who he is.

Caldris is whispered in the Nothrek wind. The legend we only speak of with hushed words, in shuttered rooms, for fear of drawing his wrath once again. His intentions are a mystery, his desires impure, and he seeks to shackle me to his side for all eternity. With the Wild Hunt as our guard, he points us back to where it all began: the village of Mistfell and the boundary where the Veil once shimmered in the wind.

Now, another secret crouches, poised to change everything.

The Mist Guard have been sworn to keep us from crossing into Alfheimr and from treading Faerie soil, even if innocents must pay with their lives. They have orders to resurrect Mistfell’s shimmering barrier, but, once again, there’s a greater cost than what has been revealed.

Once, the people of Northrek blamed me when the Veil fell. Soon, they’ll want me to pay the price the magic requires.

Author’s Note: This book is intended for listeners who are 18 and older. It contains mature language, graphic violence, and explicit content with darker elements. This is book two in a series and ends in a cliffhanger.

Enjoyed this far more than the first. The fmc actually has some back bone in this one. Will download the next to learn how their story ends

Much better than the first

I don’t feel like anything happened in this book. It felt repetitive z however I will most likely listen to the third in the e hopes it meets its full potential.

Wanted and needed more

Love the fantasy world that has been created. Had me gripped from the beginning and I enjoyed the romance aspects.

Great fantasy romance

Excellent sequel, I really enjoyed the narration and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Excellent

While the underlying story was good, and was a bit of a page turner, I became exhausted by the constant turmoil and drama created by someone apparently suffering from untreated trauma. I found I kept seeing through the story and to chaos that is created in real life by people suffering in that way. The constant cycles of accepting something and then going through yet another episode of histrionics became very wearing. Also, the messages of injustice, while important, could feel really lecturey in the way they were written.
I don’t think I’ll continue listening to the series, because I can see there’s going to be more of the victim/martyr type behaviour which I lost patience with.
The female narrator was very good however, and I found her version of the male protagonist more believable than the male narrator, which is quite unusual. I only dropped it to 4 stars because of the male narration

Conflicted

This had such potential but it was just not good enough. Most of the story she is behaving like a spoiled, ungrateful brat. Considering all the abuse she has suffered from the age of 7, and all she witnessed other women endure how can her stay true to archaic believes????? The true thing is starting her in the face and she refuses to accept it, it was infuriating. Also the story was way too long, again.
Narration was great and the story had potential that was, sadly, never realised.

Could’ve been more

This was a fabulous read with amazing character growth and world building. I started to love and understand both the main characters and enjoyed meeting all the new additions ((especially the return of the Wild Hunt).
However, the story did drag a little at the start and pacing was a little up and down. But this was expected as it is a four book series, hence the drawn out details in book two wasn’t a surprise.

Nevertheless, the once the story took off (from chapter 13, it became phenomenal! I’m so desperate for the next book (especially after that ending!)

This series has so much potential and I truly can not wait to see how it progresses.

An intriguing second instalment

Can't lie I don't think the male narrator was th best choice for this book. When he spoke as Estrella it was very cringe I couldn't wait to go back to the female narrator pov. She was amazing especially voicing other characters other than Estrella.

Story was 4/5 definitely didn't need to be so long as it was and I expected us to finally reach Alfheimr at least half way through. 😭

Loved the FMC Narrator!!

It seemed to drag on and on, and circled back to the same annoying themes. Male narrator was a bit meh. FMC was unbelievably annoying throughout

Not my favourite
