Summary

People you shouldn’t fall in love with:

  • Your best friend’s sister.
  • Your best friend’s pregnant sister.
  • Your best friend’s sister after you deliver her baby.
  • Your best friend’s sister when she’s an exhausted, overwhelmed new mother who has to deal with her crazy baby daddy and meddling townspeople

But rules were meant to be broken.

Full moons and fate have a way of pushing people together when they least expect it.

When Beth Hale called 911 when she was in labor, the last person she thought would show up was her brother’s best friend.

Now, he’s the only person she trusts.

Former Navy SEAL Shane Hutchins has demons of his own. Reinventing himself as a small town paramedic was supposed to be his atonement for the things he had done. Falling in love with a single mom wasn’t in his plan, but now he’d do anything for her and the baby girl he calls “his.”

Even if it means putting his life on the line.

Sweet story

I liked the slow pace of the story which helped in understanding mental health problems - PTSD, post partum depression intrusive negative thoughts. The hero Shane was such a loving patient man - you really thought Beth was a very very lucky girl.
As for the narrators, they were brilliant but then Sebastian York is one of the best.

Excellent Story & Listen🎧 Compelling & Heartfelt!

Maggie Gates pens another amazing novel set in her fabulous “Falls Creek” series, and I would like to say she saved the best for last, but that would not be fair to the first two books, which are just as amazing. This book is Beth Hale and Shane Hutchins’ story and I was looking forward to learning more about them since meeting them in the second book “What Heals Us” and wow, it blew me away completely. I loved the depth and complexity of these characters and all the layers of their story, and Gates takes you alongside them as she peels back their layers to reveal everything they are going through and been through. You could feel how much heart she put into this story as the emotions pour off the pages and straight into your heart. Beth’s due date was two weeks away, but the baby had other plans and luckily Shane was on duty and responded to her call, because it was not the easiest of births. Nothing like her brother’s friend seeing your lady bits, but she figured so many have seen them since her pregnancy. Shane was amazing with her, as an EMT and a friend, comforting her and giving her the care she needed, then rushing her and her newborn to the emergency room. Shane had told her brother, Austin, his intentions with her, but he was still an overprotective big brother, probably because he knows how Shane still struggles with his inner demons and has not had it easy. Beth has her struggles of her own and he is the only one who really sees her. My heart was breaking for both Beth and Shane, for all she was going through and what he went through, and how it still haunts him. PPD is a topic seldom visited, and that and the author handled that and the PTSD tastefully while keeping it real. There is never a dull moment in this book, with non-stop drama, heartfelt emotions, some surprising twists of events and a slow burn, but so worth the wait romance. Maggie Gates, thank you for another wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧Emma Wilder and Sebastian York are superbly talented voice artists and their character voices and performance are perfection, fitting to the characters and their story. Wilder’s portrayal of Beth was spot on, grasping every aspect of her personality and her every emotion, and had you feel them all, including her inner turmoil. York did the same for Shane, also bringing out all of his emotions, while showcasing his caring side, too. These two are entertaining storytellers and their performance elevates this already wonderful story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen.
